Hey guys before ordering a $40-$50+shipping key, I just want to make sure I've got the right idea.

these keys are both able to get cut with my key right?

is there a certain place I need to go to get my key cut? I don't really trust canadian tire lol. can I do this at a nissan dealership, or a key-specialty shop?

additionally, I heard something about a key PIN or something like that. my key is the discontinued nismo one, so it doesn't have one on it.

I have a set of those keys, There is a key pin I think it is usually on the steering column or something, usually use that when you lose your only key and need a new one cut. Go to a Locksmith they can cut your key off your original.

Depending on how used your key is, you may not want one cut from it. If it's still in good condition, just go to a locksmith. If not, take the 4 digit key pin to a nissan dealership and they should be able to get it cut, which is a better way (more expensive) as you're not copying a worn out key.

yeah sorry i forgot to mention that, dont copy a sloppy key i was just guessing from other cars but in the skyline is the 4 pin key code on the steering columb somewhere??

nissan charges 9 dollars to cut a new key from the pin, and they supply the key.
the local lock smith wanted 4 with no key.

I bought mine straight from nissan, paid $35 and they cut it for free

if you want the GTR key don't order it online, go to your local dealer.
KEY00-00185 is the part number. it should be around $33.

also is the code really on the steering column? i thought they were only able to source it from the VIN? which in our case isn't possible.

if you still have your original key, the code will be on it. if not, then you have to settle for a copy.

Ordered my key today for $33+ tax $37 from my local dealership, will arrive tomorrow! thanks a LOT for your help, GTRCers

next step: to copy (hmm good enough condition?), excavate the pin from the column (where??), or have the locksmith get the cut from taking out my door lock cylinders (costly?)?

I brought my work out nissan key to a lock smith and had a copy made, mine has a 4 digit number on the jey, there is a small black block under the steering coloum that has something etched into it that could possibly be it but im not sure. Seems to easy let someone sit in your car look at that number go to nissan cut there own key and steal the car seems too easy

I just checked my key, like G.T.R. said, and if you have the original one the 4 digit pin number is etched on it.

I seem to remember Daryl chiming in on an old thread about getting GTR keys. The R32 was a brass (or other soft metal) key, and the 33/34 is steel. The 32 key had a recessed logo, vs the raised one on the new keys. The steel ones will wear out the pins in the 32 tumblers much faster...
