  • 02 sensor question

Hey, im just curious... On a Rb26 does it only use the reading from the o2 sensor on warm up, or is the reading used at operating temp also. Im asking this because my car is running a little rich, and thats pretty well the only thing I havent changed or checked. I know when they wear out they will cause your A/F to be rich.

When o2 sensor is stuffed, engine uses more fuel and on my car (GTS-T) it got so rich, that I heard a popping sound from exhaust (flames) and had a rotten egg smell. Also marks on rear bumper from flames. It affects fuel economy.

Stock ECU looks at o2 sensors (o2 feedback) in closed loop, which happens when coolant temp is at 30 degrees (this is adjustable with Nistune). Before 30 degrees, stock ECU is in open loop, where it ignore o2 sensors.

So I went to lordco to pick up my new NTK O2 sensors, I searched and found on another thread that the 24005 sensor combined with the 24154 from the 300zxTT were the two to use for direct plug and play. Turns out that both of them have the horizontal plug configuration and not the square one. I also checked the 24064 sensor and it is the same. Is there none that directly plug into that other plug or will i need to change the end. I Ordered in another 300ZX sensor.

Thanks in advance for the imput.

I don't think the GTR's use the 300zx ones. I know the GTS-T used the left hand side o2 sensor on the 300zxTT but I cant remember what the GTR's used.

hmm. Which ones am I supposed to be using then? Im gonna go pull my O2s out right now, I wont put the new one in untill i know forsure. Thanks.

Well i went to take the o2's out of the car, and they are definately different. The nut on the end is larger on the 300zx one. My bad, thanks Ryan for the heads up also.

you need the little skinny SR redtop ones with the smaller thread size for the GTR.

              Lordco Part number

              NTK sensor pn#24005 x 2

One plug will plug right in, the other just take the end from the old one and put on the new plug

There i got em changed, Hopefully it does some benefits. The ones i took out were OEM. I ended up making my own socket since lordco or napa didnt have one in stock for that size.

Yeah I had to attack a 17mm deep socket from crappy tire with my grinder to do mine. Never actually seen a 17mm O2 sensor socket, they are all 22mm aka 7/8".
