Window Tint

Does anyone know if the skyline came factory with window tint, and if so
what where the VLT(visible light transmission) levels???

I'm asking because I recently got pulled over and the only way I can save the tint is if it was already on the car before the law came into effect.

my car came with a clear plastic film over the rear windows... not to sure what its there for but it looks really bad.

^^ It's up to the prosecution to prove it, not the other way around.

Ok then other solution : pull it out, show the cop and put it back on. You should be good for a couple more years.

Yea, thats what I was thinking, Guess i'm going to have to remove the tint..............

from factory, nissans usually come with 20% tint in the rear only

I believe its 35% on windshield and driver/pass windows, back 3 windows can be as dark as you want.

You're not allowed any tint on the windshield past a 5" bar at the top. Nobody in North America as far as I know lets you completely tint the windshield.

The driver and passenger side windows are allowed a maximum of 50%, and the rear side windows and rear windshield are allowed a maximum of 35%, except over the third brake light, where it has to be 70%.

A simple 30 second google search told me all of this.

Maybe for alberta.. the windshield is a grey area, theres no specific law against tinting it, just anything that could inhibit your line of sight.

There is no grey area, that's the law that I pulled from the manitoba highway traffic act. If you tint the windshield, chances are you'll get a ticket.

yeah that goes for Ontario too afix, tint laws here are often strictly enforced and can be a pain to deal with. If your car attracts attention at all, nevermind if its a JDM, they'll be looking for something with the car, and often its tint.

I dont want to make an argument or anything, I was just going based on what the OHTA says about it.

73. (1) No person shall drive a motor vehicle upon a highway,

(a) with any sign, poster or other non-transparent material or object placed on the windshield or on any window of such motor vehicle; or

(b) with any object placed in, hung on or attached to the motor vehicle,

in a manner that will obstruct the driver’s view of the highway or any intersecting highway. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 73 (1).

(2) No person shall drive a motor vehicle upon a highway where the surface of the windshield or of any window of the vehicle has been coated with any colour spray or other colour coating in such a manner as to obstruct the driver’s view of the highway or any intersecting highway. (3) No person shall drive on a highway a motor vehicle on which the surface of the windshield or of any window to the direct left or right of the driver’s seat has been coated with any coloured spray or other coloured or reflective material that substantially obscures the interior of the motor vehicle when viewed from outside the motor vehicle. It all depends on your and the officer whos looking at the cars interpretation of it, thats what I meant as a grey area.

You can paint your rear windows and rear windshield opaque black if you want. The only ones with restrictions are the driver/passenger and front windshield. (at least in Quebec the law only affects these ones, which are specifically stated in the law).

If your province puts restrictions on rear windows/windshield, it's the dumbest thing ever. A ton of stock vehicules and commercial vehicules dont even have rear windows or rear windshields, which would make them illegal because they dont have a clear view of the road? That's ********. Semis have been running with only mirrors since forever and it doesn't seem to be a problem.

Definitions
1 In this regulation,
"Act" means The Highway Traffic Act; (« Loi »)
"multi-purpose passenger vehicle" means a
motor vehicle having a designated seating
capacity of 10 persons or fewer that is
constructed on a truck chassis or with special
features for occasional off-road operation, but
does not include a passenger car, motorcycle or
truck; (« véhicule de tourisme ŕ usages
multiples »)
"passenger car" means a motor vehicle having a
designated seating capacity of 10 persons or
fewer but does not include a multi-purpose
passenger vehicle, motorcycle or truck; (« voiture
de tourisme »)
"window tinting" means any substance or
material that is applied to or incorporated into
the windshield, side window or rear window of a
motor vehicle and that is capable of reducing
light transmission or causing light reflection.

Windshield
3(1) No motor vehicle shall be equipped with
window tinting on the windshield other than window
tinting that is applied to the top 127 mm of the
windshield in accordance with subsection (2).3(2) Window tinting that is applied to a
windshield
(a) in a uniform shade band shall not reduce
light transmission to less than 25%; or
(b) in a graduated shade band shall not reduce
light transmission to less than
(i) 5% in the top 64 mm of the windshield;
and
(ii) 25% in the area between 64 mm
and 127 mm from the top of the windshield.

Windows beside driver
4 No motor vehicle shall be equipped with
window tinting on a window to the immediate right
or left of the driver's seat that
(a) reduces light transmission to less than 50%;
or
(b) increases light reflection to more than 35%.



Windows behind driver of passenger car
5(1) No passenger car shall be equipped with
window tinting on a window behind the driver's seat
that
(a) reduces light transmission to less than 35%;
(b) increases light reflection to more than 35%;
or
(c) reduces light transmission through the area of
a rear window immediately in front of a centre
high-mounted stop lamp to less than 70%.

5(2) Where a passenger car is equipped with
window tinting that reduces the light transmission
through the windows behind the driver's seat to less
than 50%, the vehicle shall be equipped with outside
rear view mirrors on both sides.

Exemption
6 A motor vehicle that was equipped with
window tinting before the coming into force of this
regulation is exempt from the requirements of
sections 4 and 5.

Verification of compliance
7 An inspection station or person
authorized or approved under subsection 327(7) of
the Act may affix a mark to a motor vehicle verifying
that light transmission and reflection levels comply
with this regulation.

Permissible variance
8 Where light transmission through a
motor vehicle window is measured with a test meter
designed for that purpose, in accordance with the
procedure prescribed by the manufacturer, and the
meter reading does not exceed the levels set out in
sections 5 and 6 by more than 5%, the motor vehicle
is deemed to comply with this regulation

Coming into force
9 This regulation comes into force on
June 1, 1993, or on the proclamation of section 29
and subsection 46(2) of The Highway Traffic
Amendment Act (7), S.M. 1989-90, c. 56, whichever
is later.


So, what i understood from all this is that if it came factory or the tint was installed befor 1993 you where good, but since i can't prove either, i'll probably have to remove the tint
