  • Oil Filter for rb26

    Any suggestions for oil filters?

300zx or 240zx filter will fit fine. Try and pick up a wix filter or amsoil filter (basicly the same filter) they're one of the best.

I just use the OEM one, its the big blue one that the older Nissans use.

I've had two o-ring failure with Nissan OEM filters in the last year. Neither time cost me an engine, but I've stopped using them.

Has this happened to anyone else or am I just unlucky - or unskilled?!

Split in two, so oil could leak out, and extruded, again so oil could escape. The extrusion one happened on the first cold start after a hot oil change, so maybe temp change relaxed the interference.

Can't say I've seen that happen on the ones I've changed over the years. I know we've had a problem with "imposter" oil filters lately (i.e made in taiwan or somewhere like that) but those were supposedly only the newer style filters.

so i just removed my oil filter, which was a Car Quest part# B85361 and bought a NAPA part#1361. I havnt finished the oil change yet because im not sure of something. the overall diameter of the carquest one is larger, but the diameter of the rubber gasket on the napa one is a little larger. i havnt tried it to see if the thread fits yet, but is the napa one what i should be using..

the napa one looks like this one but black.... where the rubber seal is just about the same size as the overall diameter of the filter.

whereas the carquest one looks like this one.... and has a small diameter rubber gasket and large diameter filter.

the two filters are basically the same length, but will the napa one work for sure?? and is indeed a good one to use?

Cant go wrong with OEM most dealers carry them. Its about half the size of the 300zx filter I find you get oil pressure faster on initial startup. part # 53JOA

Your anti-drainback valve must not be working very well if that's the case. Wix all the way for me.

I've noticed on my cars engine, can get engine noise from head on startup with no anti drain back valve and engine feels restrictive / tighter after 1x or so cold / hot cycle when filter is not flowing enough oil.

I use Ryco Z101 oilfilter, which solved above problems -

Choose Ryco Filters for the best oil filters, air filters, fuel filters and vehicle products. The leading filter experts in Australia and New Zealand.

Has a big filter element when cut apart and compared to most oilfilters, which helps with flow of oil through filter.

Also the colour of oil at oilchange time is also a good indication of how good the oilfilter is at filtering oil.

                              I think what's important is -

                              Antidrain back valve
                              Flow of filter element
                              Filtering of oil

If it covers those, then it's a good oilfilter.

From what I have learnt, thicker oils require are higher flowing filter element. Like Nismo oilfilter for example.
