  • is it worth geting brembos?

i know lots of people are doing sti swaps, is it really worth it?

What do you hope to gain by doing it? I don't know what the dimensions are for the STi brakes but one thing I have learned is depending on what kind of driving you are doing you can end up with a longer stopping distance with big brake kits. The good side is less brake fade on the track ect.
I put a set of slotted/cadmium plated rotors with pads from Stop Teck on my wifes WRX and it stops like mad. I plan on doing the same to my GTR with stainless lines.
    My 2 cents.

big brakes = more braking distance? I would like to see a non big brake kit try to slow down like my car or even Z-tuned's car lol. $4500 brakes aren't only expensive cause of less fade. stock R34 gtr is 127feet from 100 and these brakes are what, 99ft? not a big difference I guess.

Brakes are good to upgrade. Why not try the R33 brembos?

Yea I know it sounds weird. Seen a few articles and programs where that was an issue. Due to increased rotating mass I'm assuming. It's not in every situation I'm sure.

Save you "big brake" money for that fake BOV or Vtec yo. With this, you're brakes will look like the real thing. No one will know unless they have the real thing.

I should have saved my money and got a big single turbo!!rawr!

Omg those brake cover kits are hilarious!!! i would never be able to do that on my car. might as well put plastic wheel covers with those spinners on it lol.

im just wondering if people have done it and if it made a difference. cause the brakes on the gtr are already really good imo. maybe people just do it to make it look bad ass?

Actually I had a customer who wanted to get the brembo caliper covers on his G35 when he bought new rims+tires. I'd seen these on a 350z that came in and the passenger side caliper cover had fallen off. But these caliper covers only seem to fit on the braking kits that have two pot's on the inner caliper and not the 4 pot ones on the gtr since they have to be glued on the front caliper with adhesive.

I was reading an article that discussed the reason big brake kits increase the overall braking distance.

It claims that the aftermarket brake companys do not take into account the OEM brake bias. The reason being the R & D costs would be too high.

The A/M front brakes do so well at reducing the speed that the rear brakes don't kick in as quickly as they would with OEM brakes.

Other than the bling factor the only reason to go with bigger brakes is for track use, IMOP.

Good opinion but I can't see where it makes sense unless you include lockup causing the extented brake distance. I'd like to see where this info is from, especially if it's about a $5000 brembo kit or something.

I'm certain that there there is no stock GTR brakes that can slow down in less distance that the big name brake kits like Brembo, Endless, Rotora to name a few unless the thing went through a massive weight reduction. The rotation mass was reduced with my bigger brakes (I don't know how that happened). Ask velders what he thinks. I know I went from crappy hawk pads, drilled rotors and oem brakes to "OMG I'm getting a nose bleed" brakes...

Anyways, you're cars are getting old, some 20 years, so it would be a good thing to upgrade if you have the cash, even if it's just some brembo 4 pistons. Brakes were always more important than hp.

I have to say that I noticed a very big difference between my OEM pad/caliper/rotor setup and my Nismo pad/BCNR33 Brembo/Project Mu rotor/Nismo lines/HKS MCS setup.
On the street there is not much difference, but when coming down the front straight of Suzuka at 220km/hr and hitting the brakes hard at the end of that straight there is a fairly big difference. I'd love to go with a bigger setup, but afraid of rear brake bias and of course cost. I think for most, the BCNR33/BNR34 Brembo setup is a fairly nice and reasonably priced option.
I plan on upgrading to a more aggressive Endless pad when the Nismos are done, and I'll be sure to post the performance of them as well.

Ya his Rotora brakes are amazing, violent to say the least. Next time i get in that car im demanding racing seats and a 5pt. harness to keep my face out of the dash haha. But on the other hand I too remember reading an article talking about some big brake kits hurting stopping distance. I'm pretty sure its an old SCC I have lying around, I'll see if I can find it this weekend.

Bang for your buck I would have to say NOPE. Spend money on fluid, good pads and OEM non-drilled rotors and have fun.

Unless you plan on tracking heavily it`s a waste of dough. The stockers are just fine for heavy street use, I have hauled my car down from 260km\h repeatedly with only Endless pads and OEM rotors and had ZERO need to be scared. Those pads make alot of noise (squeeling) just driving around but I don`t care, I know that the car will stop like it hit a brick wall so it`s all good.

I think thats the one or its the first and only issue of Boost. Boost was Car and Drivers attempt at doing a tuner mag. I really liked it, but they never did another.

They apparently looked at braking results from cars with big brake kits and compared to stock. All, but one, the overall braking distance increased.

It was interesting that they did not mention which kit improved stopping distance.

The stopping distance from 100 to about 30 would be vastly decreased compared to stock, but after that the BBK fall off because the rear brakes do not engage at the optimal time. This is not my opinion just what the article was stating as fact.

My opinion is that other than bling, big brake kits are only needed for track use.

I have Project Mu slots at oem dimensions, Hawk and Mu pads, Master Cylinder Stopper, Endless brake lines and Motul 5.1 fluid. This setup has done great for me at track days and Auto slalom events. Only had issue with fade once and that was because I hadn't bled them in a while.
