  • Dash light dark spot

Hey all, so i just put in some LEDs for my dash lights(blue for what it matters) and in the center (140km-180km and 1k-4k rpm range - give or take) has a dark spot, the lights all work so i was curious if anyone had an idea as to how i can get rid of the spot or a fix? Thanks in advance

Thats rly interesting because I have a Nismo 320km/h and I have two dark spots in those exact locations. The speed is obviously different but the location as to where the stock speed would be is the same. Bump for helping us both :P Have you tried peeling back the speed label (its like laminated paper on most cars) and checked for any burnt out bulbs?

Sounds like you used a different style of LED bulbs. If you use the newest type (SMD) there should be no dark spot.

If you used the old fashion type (red base on the right pictured above) then you'll most likely get dark spots because the light shines forward (up) and does not "spread" around. If you use the one on the left (blue base), the convex style, then you should get better coverage. If you google you'll find that some people fix this problem by adding some reflective material (like aluminum foil) inside the cluster to help distribute the light while some others just add extra bulbs inside.

There should also be a piece of "plastic" kind of thing that is screwed or part of each gauge inside the cluster. This piece of plastic is used to spread the light around (like a prism effect), if this piece is missing you might get dark sports. Just go get some chocolate bars and save the wrappers.

It all depends on the LED's you use.

I have tried a bunch from ebay and none of them really work good except for the cheapest ones I was able to find lol.

These would be the SMD (surface mounted devices), the latest in LED design.

With ebay LED's, they look like this.

                      I have tried these

                      These

                      And these

The ones above are the ones in the picture of my car, they have the best spread and even better after I lightly scuffed them with sand paper.

Afaik this style works great too.
