  • Basically Stock RB26 with Poncams

A friend and myself were curious what kind of power could be made with a basically stock rb26 (intakes, exhaust, 1 bar boost, tune) and a set of poncams? Does anyone have before and after dynos or first hand expierence? Thanks.

From what Iv seen in past threads hp ranges from 330 - 400whp. Will you be running the stock turbos at 1 bar ?

Many people on this site recommend against running stock turbos at 1 bar for an extended period as this tends to break the ceramic turbines. That being said it may fail next week it may fail 2 years from now, at 1 bar it is kind of based on luck, just keep some money in reserve for turbo replacement if this is a DD.

you'll need injectors to get past the 350whp barrier

Depends, look your around 80% duty on 550cc nismos, which is 440cc at 390whp. You can run injectors up to 120% duty cycle. If your smart though you'll get some big injectors (like 750cc or 1000cc since they are the same price). I good idea is a fuel pump upgrade too.

Cams will make a difference in power but your fuel economy will drop also. I wouldn't care running the stock turbos at 1bar, if they blow wtvr its not like it'll destroy your engine, its always the exhast wheel that breaks on those turbos. Also you can pick up a used pair of stock turbos for circa $400 (I have a set for sale if you want, heh). Look if your engine is running good, you get a boost controller, hks gt2530s, fuel pump, and injectors and your at like 450whp (with a tune), thats with no cams. Id say find turbos before doing cams.

Don't expect a lot of power from Poncams, but what you can expect is a better powerband. For example, Type A Poncams will well suit factory or N1 turbos, or the Type B will benefit mid size turbos such as 2530. I use the Poncam B with my 2530 and they helped to smooth out the powerband, increase response and reduce turbo lag.
My advice, you don't need cams with stock turbos, upgrade your turbos first

do you have the dyno graph before and after the type-b?
