I've dealt with a few shops in Edmonton. When I need mechanic work I go to Speedtech. Highly recommended! They charged me less than the quote, even though it ended up being more than the quote.

As for tuning, I had my car tuned by AFI performance a few years back, and I seem to be the only guy with positive things to say about AFI. No mechanical or parts, just tuning. I had my car tuned and I was very pleased with the results. The car actually got slower but I asked for it because it was pushing too much boost. Everything else was better. Better idle, fuel consumption, even the AC for some reason.

    My 2 cents.

Hate to bring up an old thread But I'm currently unable to start a new one and this seems pretty uhh near topic...

before I buy a gtr, I'm just wondering on what our options are here in canada for buying prebuilt shortblocks?
I've seen a few across the water but i'm kind of skeptical on which ones are safe from buying from.

If that's not an option Does anyone know a good RB26 engine builder on the west coast of canada? wouldnt mind getting another stock shortblock, buying the rotating assembly and sending it to someone who knows what they are doing. I really dont like doing things twice.

You could try MonkeyNutz in Vancouver, but I suspect they just contract it out. Same with Lightspeed in Red Deere.

Try contacting all the vendors here.

Just curious, was that before the cam cap failure problems/missing or did they work on it after?

If your looking for a tuner I would check out RCTS in calgary or lightspeed in red deer. I have used lightspeed in the past and always had good experiences. The tunes are very safe, black soot on the bumpers safe...

I'm going to give RCTS a try in calgary for my current engine. Just want to try someone else for the sake of it.

PS- lightspeed made 587whp on my stock bottom end and ran hard for a year.

I agree on these shops but I dont' think they'd tune my vipec? not sure.. As for safe with black soot, I'm pretty sure the best tuners in the world don't tune like that, on the same gas... this is just my opinion though and it is the net...

Not starting a war or hating on shops here but that near 600whp stock bottom end, that had to be a new nur block cause the same shop insisted I stay below 400whp on my stock bottom end and -5s cause it was not forged.

Did you engine fail or you just wanted to go with much more power without the fear of the "stock" bottom end?

No failure, just wanted more power/torque.

You are right though, It was a nur bottom end, but they are really no stronger than a factory bottom end. It had pretty bad compression aswell. I was going to run it until it blew but got a good deal on a RB30.

The cam cap came off after they assembled it. Not really their fault. If the previous owner of my car had upgraded the cam cap bolts it wouldn't have happened. In fact, I'd make it one of those must haves with anyone running aftermarket cams. It's a real expensive learning lesson.

I've heard of stock bottom ends making 800whp with only stronger rod bolts. The engine did fail eventually due to a broken oil pump. I wouldn't try it but the bottom end it's self is pretty strong from factory. It's the oil pump that kills it. Going with forged rods/pistons is good for reducing weight from the bottom end and is just good insurance.

Edit, here is a neat link. 1125whp on stock bottom end :O

Man I don't get it... I had a stock bottom end, 160psi across the board lol Anyway, joke won't be on me this time. I'm looking for a knowledgable tuner than will not hold my car back unless there's a reason other than "gut feeling"

Rb30 are beasts! They're better in every way other than not being a true skyline afterwards lol

Was it a rips block or something built locally? How do you find the fitment being 30some taller? Hood closes nicely?

Levi, that 800 whp must be Michael Ferarra's R33 As for the tomei studs, they're a nice $200 upgrade but aren't needed if the stock bolts are torqued correctly which are good, even at 1000hp. They fail due to high rpm if I recall. I'm on my second set of Tomei cam cap studs, I had a few come out bent (initial builder over torqued them).

You're right, I do remember reading it in D-Sport. Once you bandaid harmonics with an ATI dampner and add a dry sump the RB26 can be a pretty stout stock short block.
