  • im getting a 2.8L gtr and need some help!!

Ok so I've been a supra owner for the past couple of years, but that will all change soon...I'm getting a 2.8l gtr skyline....the supra and skyline are my 2 top cars ever so I'm very happy to be or soon to be a gtr owner.
So this is what the gtr is running on
    Oversize 2.8l
    Ported head
    87.5mm Forged pistons and rods
    Tomei ajustable cam gears
    Garrett gt35r ball bearing turbo
    balanced engine
    Stage 3 clutch
    44mm tial wastegate

The next step for me would be a stand alone system like a aem ems but I'm really looking to get one used. Because with out it the car dosent run good at all..

Since I am new to the gtr world, I'm looking to get some feedback, help to find parts and some kingld of guidance to make this car run great with out loosing 2much throttle response for big hp.

So let me know what you guys think about this skyline setup

Does the car have a chipped ECU or does it already have an aftermarket ECU. I doubt that someone would have spent the money on a 2.8l kit and not take care of that too.

Was it built here or in Japan?

    Jon.

Does it actually have a stroker kit or is it just oversized pistons and the owner thinks that makes it a 2.8
My car keeps on stealing my money .

Thr car is running on chipped ecu ans is having alot of problems with maf and boost readings...
The guy ran out of budget on the build so he had to cut corners on the electronics in the end.

And yes everything done to the car was done here

Ok so I checked with the shop that built the engine this morning, they tell me its nowhere near a 2.8l stroker kit...all they did to the internals was forged it and shave and polish the cylinder walls to make it at most 2.7l but they told me to keep thinking it a 2.6 with 87.5mm pistons.....

The builders also told me all the car needs is a ems and change the air intake to a single cos he has single turbo setup but still 2 air intakes with 2 mafs....would it help if I switch the mafs the the 300zx ones...I heard they run better with that kind of setup

Dear god what happened to that Gtr? I see some crappy tire parts on there and fake recaro seats. The engine bay is a disaster area man. If you do get this I hope you manage to get a killer deal because from the way it looks he spent all the money on the so called striker kit and then was taped out from there
Miss driving sooooo bad! Need to get a car on the road ASAP!

There are lots of options, AEM, Vipec, Apexi Power FC (either with or without mafs). I am running a D-Jetro Power FC (maf-less, L-Jetro still uses the mafs) and I like it's simplicity. The Vipec has MUCH more precision to it both in tuning and features but can be up to 3x the price vs a good, used D-Jetro.

Expect to pay anywhere from $1200 to $3200 for an ECU installed and tuned. The D-jetro can be had for as little as $800 if you are patient and is a plug-and-play ECU that only needs some tweeking of the base tune that is the default tune already in it. A good tuner should have you in the green in about 3 hours (shouldn't cost more than $400).

the Apexi power FC is a good unit. Not the newest technology but still performs well and is from what I can see, the easiest to tune and tinker with.
                          Victory is on the horizon..

Well like I said earlier there is no stroker kit on it its basicly still a 2.6l with forged internals... I notice that the engine bay was covered with wires, not shure if that's how it should look but I don't know. I'm definitely going to want and clean that up also repaint or change the headcover. How much you you pay for a gtr like that...cos I'm trading it for the supra that is posted in the first page of this post
