I'd almost consider putting in a clutch switch on my GT-Four. I took it to Krown to get it sprayed last year, and the guy who pulled it in didn't bother to ask if he was right about the pedals being reversed, so he matted the throttle and turned the key :O

Scared the crap outta me and I made sure I voiced my displeasure with him not checking with me first if he wasn't sure, but I'm too nice of a guy to really chew him out :P

Ya I went to turn th ke but not start the car and turned it a bit to far and she fired up i was shocked. But I always leave my car in neutral so no worries there but I've had his car for like 6 months and been clutching every time so it's good to know I can stop that lol

Not really a bad habit to have considering you may forget that you have it in gear at some point.

I just took the car out and I have to put the clutch in to start it up. Would that mean someone set it up that way, and it wasn't like that from the factory? It's a '92 GTR

Clutch switches are relatively new and only over here. I think they started happening around '86 or so. People in other parts of the world are smart enough to not start the car in gear it seems.
DSMers aren't the only guys disconnecting it for starting, Supra twin turbos with the manual have also had a fair number of documented crankwalk issues. It can happen to any car, I've heard of crankwalk on a big block Chevy.

[QUOTE=M13;491901]it probably has something to do w/ actual cases where people sued companies for 'letting them start car in gear'.

Develop the habit of leaving it in neutral wiggling the shifter before starting. FTW.

I recently bought 2001 Subaru Sambar kei truck and I was surprised that I actually need to press on the clutch to start it. I guess not all JDM are no clutch needed to start thing!

you can make any car start without the clutch by bypassing the safety

+1, I do this every time now as I had someone drive it some 5 years ago who left it in gear and I didn't check the neutral, the car hopped forward 2 feet when I started it from outside.

Also, it's hard on an engine if you start with the clutch in I hear, more so with heavy clutches. I'm thinking of upgrading to a triple from a twin and I was told that due to higher cover pressures.

Why would less rotational mass put more stress on an engine?
