  • Opinions on my tire choice

So I'm looking to get a set of 265/40/R17 Dunlop Direzza Star Spec Z1 tires to put the power to the ground on my gtr

From all the reviews I've read about these tires they are about as good as it gets at that price point

Has anyone gone through a set of these tires or have any input regarding treadwear and such or if there is any other options I should consider at this price point(the cheapest set I found in Canada is $1000)

was looking at those r888 advan neovas i ended up going with potenza re-11's great dry grip, but superior wet grip compared to the others.

Id go with the Star specs hands down for the money.
Traction is optional, so are zipties

Personally, I think they're great and on par with the aforementioned AD07/8 Neovas and Bridgestone Ponteza RE-11s. I've driven all 3 and price for performance they are all amazing but I'd still have to give it to the Pontezas as they have a much quieter and comfortable drive. I used them on a stock 240sx hatch and they were direct size replacements, also using them for DD, Drift and unofficial parkinglot AutoX.

Another option, though I have no real experience with, are Hankook RS3, which i've heard are better than the previous listed but not good for damp surface and heavy rain / hydroplaning. The commercial has an Aston Martin DB9, so they must be good.

The RE-11s last abit longer and grip abit better but if you can get any other set of tires ive listed for cheaper, i'd recommend that over paying the extra money so you can save up for another set.
        Double track drift, yo.

I've been running Direzzas for a couple of seasons and LOVE them. They have huge grip but do get a bit greasy when they get hot. Still predictable and give good warning. I'll certainly be buying them again.

+1 on the direzzas, very capable of throwing your passengers out of their window if they are not properly restrained

there was a decent tire rack comparo from awhile ago that outlined all the tires in that class. like i said what made me choose the re-11s over the advans was the simple fact that what the re-11s lost in outright grip (only by almost indicernable points) it trumped the others in wet performance. I am using the tires primarily for street, and for track days. so the choice was pretty easy. as im sure most of you guys know, wet weather performance on a street car is pretty imperative haha.

for street and track, the Star Spec are unbeatable for the price, i've had them for a year now, with over 10.000km with 2 time attack events + 2 full lappings days + many lapping session they are still over 50% left on them
and they are the greatest tires in the rain, i've passed STIs like they were parked during lapping sessions during a huge rainstorm, and my AWD wasn't even working at the time

i've looking forward to another summer on my Star Spec,
                p.s. i got the same size, 265/40/17

the RS-3 are much better at dry grip simply because their thread wear is so much lower (140)
but as street tires they lack everything you would look to have

^yeah I was deciding between the star spec and the RS3, but this review on Motortrend said that they are absolutely garbage in the rain compared to the strong grip of the star specs and living in Vancouver i need that wet grip haha

They aren't that great, its the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 that are great in the rain.
