  • Upgrade Help

    Hey everyone,

I am looking into upgrading my turbos as well as supporting mods. But i have no clue what is needed, heres my list please feel free to help me out or send me a link to helpful information as search didnt really help. I have no idea what i want or expect for power goals.

Right now my car has a Apexi air intake, greddy downpipe, apexi test pipe, Tomei expreme ti exhaust, oil filter relocation/ cooler, nismo thermostat.

    Plans:
    Vipec
Garrett 2860R-5 or tomei arms (leaning towards garretts)
    Tomei Type B Cams
    Injectors? (what size)
    Fuel pump(recomendations) Bosch?? Tomei??

And of course some gauges: oil temp and pressure, water temp, wideband, boost

ViPEC ECU would require a Mac boost control solenoid (onboard boost control), IAT sensor, maybe upgrade MAP sensor.

Cheapish / reliable engine to support those turbo's.

    Head -

Tomei Camgears (or modified stock camgears)
    Tomei Type B camshaft's
    Tomei metal headgasket (1.2mm)
    Tomei metal intake, exhaust gasket's
    Tomei valvesprings
    Tomei bronze valve guides
Correct ARP head studs for application.

    Bottomend -

    Tomei oil gallery restrictor
Stock block (cracked tested, bored out for forged pistons, cleaned, painted, etc) or new N1 block if can afford it
    Tomei Forged pistons (cooling channels??)
Stock I beam conrods that are shotpenned, crack tested, etc
Stock crank with JUN or similar oilpump drive collar
    ARP conrod bolts
    Nismo bearings
Nismo sump baffle plate to prevent oil starvation when cornering, launching, etc.
    N1 oilpump with Reimax gears
    N1 waterpump

    Clutch -

Nismo twinplate clutch, Nismo slave cylinder, Nismo braided clutch hose.

    Tomei catalogue -

Use this calculator for injector sizing -

Fuel Injector Calculator Fuel Pump Calculator Conversions

Those turbo's are good for roughly around 700hp at engine when pushed to the limit's, so 800cc injectors should be big enough with correct fuelpump (fuelpumps are usually hp rated, so fairly easy to match to injectors when using that injector calculator, as look at max hp of injectors).

Some fit sard FPR, Sard dual entry fuelrail (setup as single entry like factory fuelrail), I think was Sard / Denso injectors, braided fuel hoses, fittings to match.

Also need fuelpump hard wire kit -

DeatschWerks - Leading provider of high-performance fuel systems. Explore fuel pumps, injectors, and more for all your EFI needs. Shop now!

I might have missed a few things, but that's the list of mods you need.

I dont think im going to do too much internal stuff as it has had a rebuild in japan, not to many kms ago. Has an aftermarket clutch in it.

I have the following up for grabs. All under 1200km new. Reason for selling is exhausted patience with the project.

Garrett 2860-5, professionally ported and matched to tomei outlets/manifolds, 2000 deg F turbo X ceramic coated (black).
Tomei expreme Manifolds, 2000 deg F turbo X ceramic coated (black).
Tomei expreme turbo outlets, EGT bung installed, 2000 deg F turbo X ceramic coated (black).
Nismo downpipe, Wideband bung installed, 2000 deg F turbo X ceramic coated (black).
HKS SPL piping kit (this is the whole deal, from filters to plenum (excluding MAFs and intercooler of course), pipes, couplers, and hardware but I upgraded to Tbolt clamps.
HKS SSQV BOV, Black edition with black magic coloured BOV pipe.
          Tomei Fuel Rail
          Sard 800cc injectors
          Vipec V44

This is all I can think of for what you have on your list, I'm just trying to figure a price. Again, all was new, from RHDjapan but I am sick of spending money with no results on my 3 year project, always something horribly delayed.

Hopefully they sorted the oilpump drive problem when it was rebuilt. Just read the Tomei catalogue link above, as most of the info you need to know about weak points of RB26 is there. I think I missed the Tomei oil gallery restrictor (I think Tomei call it a orifice?), which I added to above list that stops too much oil reaching head at higher rpm, boost levels. Can change the valve springs with compressed air down sparkplug hole and overhead valve spring compressor, so saves removing head.

But stock headgasket has a frayed thin and thick seal around cylinders, so can't take constant high levels of boost like metal headgasket that has a solid thick seal around cylinders. So at least pulling head and fitting Tomei valve springs, Tomei metal headgasket, Tomei Poncams (use stock camgears), Tomei oil restrictor, Tomei intake, exhaust gaskets, Nissan repair gasket kit (for valve seals, camcover gaskets, etc), reseat valves (when head specialist pressure test's head for leaks, he should do this for you) would be minimum mods for road use.

If on racetrack (at constant high rpm) or reving engine above stock revlimiters, you really need to upgrade the valve guides, as they are known to crack (read Tomei catalogue, as they can explain it better than I can about what happens).

Thank you for your kind words, but I don't know that much, as it's more of a hobby for me. One of the local RB experts / tuners (sponsor) can help you with rebuild, parts.

Been pming you about the goodies nismo Pulling the head may be something worth while, i dont really want to spend a **** ton of money on a rebuild when i dont need it yet. But doing the head is not to bad and it will help in the long run.

I have found out the stock head is one of the weak area's, especially when using stock valve springs that have done over 100,000km (learnt the hard way) that causes valve bounce when past redline (start of redline is the limit of stock valve springs). It might have a few cracked, chipped valves (crosses fingers that it hasn't). Marks on the cam lobes gave it away.

Yeah, you'll have first call once I figure out my finances.

As for the vipec, it's not on the list yet. Would be looking for a firm $1600 though.

Id love to know what all they did to the engine. I have some japaneses paperwork but unsure on what all it is. I was told it was done around 90000km and the odometer says 120xxxkms. I really want to take out my intake and all those pipes and see the turbos. I imagine they are stock but they re did the wastegate lines and what not.
