  • Breaking front driveshaft ''joint''

I went to tune my R32 GTR yesterday: made 590rwhp/543poundTorque! One of the tuner there told me that he knows somebody who broke the joint of the front driveshaft 3 times when over around 470whp??!!

I don't understand how this can happen when I hear people having like 700whp+ and having no issue...?

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks!

All depends how you drive it too. If your dropping the clutch at 8 grand while in full lock with racing slicks bug if your just doing rolling pulls then it's a lot easier on everything.

i find that hard to believe.

we had 8-9 gtr's over the 500 hp mark on stock axles. never saw one break.

i have however broke axles at 600+ lbft..... do the math and youll know what the hp was on that

Yeah but i mean, its not the shaft itself that breaks, it's the joint, says the guy...

          yeah, never seen one break.

like i said. the splines on the shaft are the first thing to go, so people think its the joint htat breaks, but its actually the splines breaking.

i wouldnt worry about it with your power levels.

I heard the front diff will explode if it's stock and take out your engine.
I heard an N1 oil pump will still fail.
I heard splitfires are worse that OEM.
I heard if you don't use an extended pan with a larger pump, you'll starve the engine, even if you got a restrictor and bigger drains.
I heard that if you don't delete the HICAS, you will crash.
I heard that if you run too much NOS, your floor panel will fall out cause your manifold is in danger.
I heard that if you use Eagle rods, your engine won't be reliable and will soon fail, though they've been seen at 1500hp.
I heard a stock GTR engine won't last long over 500whp, though some shops have then over 700whp.
I heard that the R34 transmission is much stronger than R32/R33 but people still break them the same way.
I heard that if you dont' install a stopper collar in the front diff (driver side shaft) the shaft can pop out when cornering hard.
I heard that if you track your car you MUST have a gearbox, diff coolers and have a huge or twin engine oil coolers if you want it to last.
I heard that if you granny shift and don't double clutch like you should, you'll never beat Dom.

haha. Anyway, the front shaft exploding, maybe that guy has 2 different final drive ratios or someone welded his xfer case clutch pack or maybe he's got his "noob driver helper" torque splitter so high it's putting too much torque on that shaft, the size of it tells me that it wouldn't do so good when really loaded up.... Just cause 1 guy does it doesn't mean everyone will, many high high high hp cars out there running stock shafts, stock gearboxes, stock diffs... Sounds isolated to me.

I think RIPS uses a stock front shaft (R32 gtr) on their 1200hp RB30 engines and I don't recall hearing about failures.

Agree x10 with nismostune! People over exagerate all these problemsm, just because someones friend had that happen to them.i bet with most of these cases something wasnt proprrly installed and thats why the part failed.

Yeah, I know! I thought it wouldn't cost a dime to ask! That NOS+panel thing is hilarious!

Thats what I answered to the guy, that people with 700 awhp didn't seem to have any issues...

                        Thanks!
No, first time i tuned it (last year) i didn't have my setup ''completed'' (although a setup is nevr really completed) and i pulled 471rwhp. I live in Quebec city and doin 2h30 road trip to get the car tuned isn't my thing... You nevr know what can happen when you get there, so many things can go wrong... Like my fpr that failed. This time, i got it tuned here in Quebec by a well known reputable tuner... I'm glad i made that choice!

                        Like the signature btw!

Have had this issue with a 26 making about 550hp. Wasnt due to the power but the engine mounts where gone.

After we replaced engine and gearbox mounts, no problemo's.
