  • AWD on and off on BNR32

    Hi,

I've some kind of issue with my AWD system. When I start the car, most of the time the AWD light lits on (so the car is no longer on 4 wheel), rarely I can drive it for 30 minutes with the system ok...

Anyone has an idea what could I do to solve the problem?

Youve been here a while but I'll save the flaming for now.

Searching will bring up similar issues.

First off, check the code. In the trunk near the speakers, the attessa box will flash when your light is on. You most likely have a service manual so there's a section for troubleshooting (flowchart) and how to.

If you have recently made any changes or did any work, that would be a good place to start.
Could be a pressure problem in the line, a misaligned or faulty tps sensor, list goes on.

So, what's your code and what have you done in the last few months.

Manually check wheel speed sensors x 4, G sensor that from memory is under centre console, tooth drive next to rear diffhead, 4WD ECU itself. Sometimes get bad solders on circuit board inside or rear window, trunk lid leaks and ECU fails due to water damage which is common on that side of car where 4wd ECU is located. The water marks on top of ECU casing gives it away. Also check the 4wd fuse under dash (which fuse is the 4wd is mentioned on back side of cover that you remove to access fuses. From memory it says something in Japanese, then "4wd" under it).

Volt info for sensors should be mentioned in R32 GTR manual. As far as I know the G sensor, wheel speed sensors are the common failure parts. G sensor isn't cheap.

This videoclip explains how the R32 GTR 4wd works, sensors involved, how it's reprogrammed on racecars, etc -

Then check wear on tyres and make sure they are wearing evenly on front, rear and are the same overall diameter (tyre, rim).

More simple than that, start at what code comes up... No need to go on tangents when you're troubleshooting.
