Hey guys I was reading up on single turbo conversions(I am considering turning my r33 into a 1/4 mile car) and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good turbo? Can the stock engine handle a single turbo or do I need to make mods?

For basic boost up of stock engine, would need injectors, fuel rail, fuel pump, FPR, new fuel filter, new fuel hoses, ECU, surgetank in trunk, metal headgasket, metal intake, exhaust gaskets, sump baffles (Nismo, Tomei, etc).
Stock pistons are good to around 20psi. Anything higher you would look into running on E85 (upgrade injectors, etc to methonal compatible parts) which with tune can produce 50-100hp more.
Or if still use pump gas and on a budget, forged pistons, ARP conrod bolts, crack tested, shot penned stock conrods, Nismo bearings, etc.Last edited by Skym; 07-20-2013, 03:09 AM.RESPONSE MONSTER

That's unreal! I pray you never have to build that thing, man, it's like a proper build doesn't last as long as a good stock engine in Canada... Had I kept my stock engine rather than listening to a tuner (and building the engine for more than 400whp) I'd still be running I bet, not building another engine again
oem engines nothings is better no one can built an engine like nissan did im also still running my stock motor twin gt2860-5 18 psi all day really the secret is to know when to and when to not push the motor its all up to the driver to understand and know the limit of the engine..

N1 RB26 engine produces 500hp and last's a 24 hour race (capable of 640hp on dyno), but is not exactly a stock engine (block, head, pistons, cams, etc are different to stock RB26 most GTR's are fitted with).
Most cars make the big hp on dyno where it's only short burst's, but making that hp last is a different ball game when car is thrashed on racetrack (under high load for long periods of time). Then take age of engine into account.Last edited by Skym; 07-21-2013, 10:25 PM.RESPONSE MONSTER

My single turbo conversion coat me 3500$ from the rad, Ic, injectors, manifold, wg, turbo everything, making 435 at 17.8psi it's also very responsive.
So basicly it's all about the way you build it, the stock rb26 can last at high hp, it all depends on maintenance and the way you drive it.
A few guys around town are running 600awhp on a stock motor, even the stock hg and they've been running it for 3 years daily driven

Yup, a big laggy turbo is the best way to stomp the yard on a stock motor. Big turbos aren't working as hard at moderate boost levels creating very little heat. Heat is your mortal enemy. A guy in town here just finished his build with a Precision 6062 (iirc) and we were pretty much even....however, I was only at 15 psi and he was at 24psi.
All I got is the big kit (T88 full kit), some itty bitty HKS cams and a Djetro running the show.
Jon.Why don't you come over to MySpace and Twitter my Yahoo untill I Google all over your Facebook.

I have a 6262 on my stock rb26, it made 410whp last weekend and maxed out the turbo and going back this weekend to get retuned and shooting for a little over 500whp. My build thread is on here check it out. I hit full boost just before 4000rpm. I love my setup and recommend going single, my car drives so much smoother now vs when it was stock twins.1994 R32 Gtr - Exhaust, intake, and tune = 1/4 mile 12.74 (Running new setup soon enough )
