  • cross country drive, is this risky?

I'm planning to buy a gtr in Ontario and drive it home to Alberta.

first, is this crazy even with a well maintained car, should I just ship it? The car i'm thinking of has a cracked exhaust manifold.
second, is it unadvisable to drive through the states due to heat score and possible theft?

    thanks

Buddy of mine SRC drove his car from Calgary to Ontario. Definitely doable if it doesnt have existing problems. Just get ready to buy gas a lot.
Dang! You got shocks, pegs... Lucky! You ever take it off any sweet jumps?

http://forums.gtrcanada.com/general-...gtr-faith.html Its a car not a grenade. I've done this trip (if you read the link) twice now. My car makes 425 whp and gets 27 mpg cruising at 120 with the windows down.
If a GTR is unreliable and bad on fuel I think you're doing something wrong.
Do the trip, bond with your car and enjoy.

i did it from BC to NW Ontario, 505whp got 400kms/tank zero boosting the whole way. Totally doable.

I just came back from an Ontario out to the east coast, down to NYC, and back up through the US to SW Ontario trip. Anecdotal evidence of course, but nothing broke, no issues were had, and didn't get stopped in any of the states or provinces. My car is stock as it was for the trip, without too much stupidity and with a lot of open road sections I could get pretty good mileage. One chunk was all interstate and I put up a just over 600km distance per one fill up.

No different than driving any other car. Other than the fact that fmit does break it could be down for a while (not like going to Canadian tire for a new water pump lets say)
            No build thread.

I picked mine up in Toronto this spring and drove it back to Newfoundland, it was inspected and in good mechanical condition so it didn't make me nervous at all and I didn't have any problems, alot better gas mileage than I was expecting too. Good Idea to take a few things with you just in case you do happen to have any trouble, like a jug of coolant, some oil, buy a jack if one isn't in the car and make sure you have a wrench that will fit your lug nuts (standard lug wrench was too thick to fit my rims, I had to get a thin socket), and some magic wrap or something similar in case you spring a leak in a rad hose or fuel line, and a few basic tools that might get you out of a jam.

Like Mike said, pack a tool kit for any unforeseen events. A good socket set, multi-tool, electrical tape, zip ties, coolant. I've done short haul trips in the GTR and have had to conduct roadside maintenance. Can be frustrating when you don't have the right tools.

It is doable. I just took a two week vacation and drove back to Texas in my R32 GTR with absolutely no problems other than my speedo cable broke. It was around 3600km one way.
