  • Power steering issue, please input!

So have a new built motor, was running great, left the car untouched for a month, came back... on start up, i heard a weird click click...idle idle idle...click click, it didn't sound like anything motor related. Listened and was coming from around the ps pump area.

Felt my PS was messed up, checked fluid level, it was literally empty (i now know its a leak), filled it up, and car stopped making the noise

*My question is, could that weird noise have been as simple as running a dry ps pump? I am in no rush to replace the pump as funds aren't free flowing, this shouldn't be a problem as long as i keep the fluid filled correct?

    Thanks guys

Did you bleed your ps system when you installed it?

that click click is probably the pump running dry or air in the fluid causing cavitation. If i remember correctly fill it up at the reservoir and then crack the return line on the steering linkage, while turning the wheels. Then close it when you get fluid coming out, fill reservoir and be on your way.
