  • Decision upgrade help!

So quick overview...fully forged/built block, upgraded hks turbos, catless exhaust w/resonator removed.

Looking to keep it a daily, don't need ridiculous power. Looking for more overall fun/sound.

I have 2 or 3 next upgrade options but wanted some input and advice.

    1. Tomei camshafts- quick few hp...mostly going for that awesome idle sound 1200ish installed.

    2. EL downpipe - a few hp possibly? more airflow... Noticeable change in sound? *is this worth the...500-900 ish $ range? or would you guys go with cams handsdown?

    3. Recommend something besides a tune/ecu? I heard the piping under the hood that says "twin turbo" if you change it out , it can make quite a bit more airflow?

Cams are usually only changed once the engine is breathing fully from turbo's (full exhaust from turbo's).

Can buy Nismo dump pipes (other options are Mines, High Power Improvement), front pipes, cat elimination pipe, catback exhaust (at least 3.5 inch, but might see more hp with a 4 inch catback exhaust).

If want more mid to peak hp, go for individual pipes / exhaust from each turbo to rear of car. Veilside, Apexi, Kakimoto are few exhaust manufacturers that make this type of exhaust.

A basic boost up of stock RB26 includes N1 turbo's (or HKS 25/30's), 260 duration cams, full exhaust from turbo's, Nismo 600cc injectors (or 700-800cc with HKS 25/30 turbo's), Nismo fuelpump (bigger lph fuel pump to match bigger cc injectors), Nismo FPR (or genuine Tomei FPR), modified intake piping, Z32 AFM's + plugs, ECU retune to suit. Good for 460-550hp depending on what boost level you run (550hp is the reliable limit of factory conrods if engine is pushed). ECU could be Link, ViPEC, PowerFC, Motec, etc. Also an upgraded clutch to suit. Get more hp with a MAP ECU, as remove the restrictive gauze screens on AFM's that allows more air to reach turbo's.

Some go for the 270 duration Tomei Procams (including springs, lifters, valve guides, shims, etc), as get a little bit more hp, torque throughout powerband and a mean Group-A like idle.

The intake piping (I think Nismo??? sells that intake piping or similar aftermarket intake piping from HKS, etc) in engine bay helps with response and the rubber intake piping doesn't crush or expand. You can put a custom divertor plate inside the twin turbo pipe (gain a few hp). There's a thread on here some where showing the mod or search the internet.

Definitely add adjustable cam gears to that list and youll be able to shift the powerband to your liking.
