  • help me decide on the part needed for my winter project !

Well.. my timing belt skipped many teeth and the engine is gone ( at least the head!). Engine was rebuild with 86.5mm forged and was done about 15 000 km ago.

Let me start by saying I'm no mechanic and I don't do anything on my car.. so while the motor will be pulled away, I was thinking about doing many stuff I wouldn't be able to usually do.

    I have a budget of approx. 10k $. So I can't go all-in either.

This is what I had in mind :

    - Supertec or spool import SPLINE gear set for oil pump N1 : 650$ + labour
    - Mechman alternator 180amp ( I have 3 amps and enjoy SQ sound) : 500$
    - Nismo engine mount : 200$
    - New Metal gasket kit : 500$ ( Is the cometic kit all metal, or should I order the tomei gasket kit and complete it with the cometic one ?)
    - Hybrid GTX billet wheel upgrade + brass cage bearing on my gt2860-5s : 1100$ ( full rebuild, in other word, I need to decide either I go 60mm wheel or 63mm)
    - Most likely would need new dump pipe 76mm : 600$

    Total : 3550$

Let say, theres 2000$ involded in the head ( 1000$ in parts and 1000$ in labour) + timing belt kit.

    I'm now down to 5550$.

I saw some stroker kit tomei going for about 4k on yahoo auction and thought that maybe it would be the right moment to go ahead... but then I'm getting REALLY close or will be busting my budget.

and then.. I haven't looked at my TS3B clutch if she was still good or my front diff ( go with an ATB helical one) or upgrade the transfer-case with new plate.

    thought with all this ?

Can buy the bottomend cheaper if buy the shortblock from say a R31 Skyline in Japan. Cost 1200 or so to refresh and I think can reuse RB26 pistons (same diameter, I think only longer stroke on RB30 bottomend).

But get good power, torque results with those turbo's or GTRS size turbo's. If have big FMIC, bigger turbo's it's a must have mod for helping with turbo spool, regaining response at lower rpm, etc.

I will email rips, but I'm sure it will come up too expensive for my liking.

So far here's what I have in mind:

            - Injector: ID1000, Bosh EV14, Deatschwerks
            - Alternator : Mechman compact universal 170amp
            - Oil pump : N1 + spline gear oil pump. supertec or spool import.
            - Rebuild turbo : pureturbos brass cage + billet 60mm wheels
            - Gasket kit : Tomei metal gasket kit ( HG, intake/ exhaust mani + thorttle) + genuine nissan or simply buy the cometic pro at 350$
            - Timing belt kit : Stronger timing belt + genuine nissan tensioner etc. ( which I could buy these uprated too!)
            - MAF delete pipe
            - 3 inch elbow turbo ( to go with uprated turbos)
            - Nismo engine mount

ignition : r34 coilpack or LS2 conversion bracket found on sAU about 600$ ( or just stay with my brand new oem coilpack + harness + HPI6 haltech ignitor)

Now, I'm thinking if it would be a wise choice to go with a QUAIFE front diff or it's a waste for a car that is street-driven 95% of the time, althought way past the oem power..
