  • What is this sensor?

I feel like an idiot for asking this, but does anyone know what the small sensor is on the GTR dash (left/passenger side) next to the windshield defogging vents? It looks like some kind of light sensor.

I thought it might be for either automatically turning headlights on in tunnels, or some kind of rain sensor for automatic windshield wipers. But I've never experienced either while driving, and there doesn't seem to be any auto setting for the wipers (plus that would be a pretty futuristic feature for '89).

    Any insight would be helpful.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Its related to the stock Alarm on the cars. It just flashes Red, if you have your Alarm Armed. This sensor exists in plenty of Nissan/Infiniti cars.

It is a sunload sensor for the climate control. There is no stock alarm on R32.

when you put your climate control on auto this sensor will detect how much sun is coming in the car and will automatically change the fan speed

Thats actually a good question. Since I have got my GTR (92) seen this sensor and wondered but been farting around with getting other stuff to snuff forgot to look it up.
