So today I worked on the coilover + wideband install.

I started with the coils. Got the car up on the lift, removed all 4 shocks, and prepped the new coils for install. I adjusted them all about 20 turns from the highest ride height setting, and figured i would work from there once i got the car back down on the ground.

      Out with the old:

      And in with the new!

Ran into some trouble when installing one of the rear coils. The holes in the lower mount were not big enough to allow the bolt to pass through:

I was shocked, considering I heard such great reviews, and so far everything had been going perfectly. With the track day coming up tomorrow, and no time to contact hsd to see what they would say, I had to drill out the holes to accommodate the bolt. ONly one side had this fitment issue.... weird.

Here is the car back on the ground. I had hockey tonight, and not enough time and patience to start adjusting the height and preload too much, so here's what i have for now. It is a little bit lower than what you see in this picture, but i need to roll the fenders before I take her down a little more.

In this one you can see the scratch from when my car got smoked by some old fart on a hoveround!!!! yey!

I get some rubbing when i hit bad bumps, but i'll play with all that stuff soon enough. I have them on the lowest dampening setting while they settle, and the ride feels really nice. Despite that strange bolt issue, they are an otherwise fantastic coilover setup. More review to come after the track day tomorrow, but i noticed an insane difference already.

On another note... I installed the wideband, and noticed some my AFR hitting 10.0 (maybe less? not sure if the AEM guage registers below 10.0) at WOT. which is way too rich. i'm going to go see almasi again and hopefully he can sort it out. Ive noticed quite a bit of power loss since the enrichment as well... i wonder what caused it.

Track day in t-minus 5 hours.... SH*T i need sleep.

              Track Day:

So Friday, a bunch of skyline guys and I (a few members on this board as well), rented the track at sanair for the day. It was the car's first lapping session, and I was worried about how the brakes would hold up. I'm still running stock everything, except for hawk HP+ pads, and brake fade was a huge concern.

So we finally all assembled and arrived at the track at approx 8:30-9:00am

              The group:

After getting the cars empty and set up for the track, we gradually got through the rules + were ready to go out for a few warm up laps to learn the track.

My overall impressions were great. The new suspension performed excellently, and all around the car behaved very well. I am still noticing quite a bit of power loss due to the rich afr but i will be making stops at Autoworx and almasi asap to work out the kinks.

              The bad:

Brakes. They sucked. Hard. After about 8-10 laps, Im coming down the back straight at about 220km/h. I go to hit the breaks, and the pedal goes right down to the floor. And the car doesnt stop.

Brake fade got me like a bitch. Luckily, I was able to continue straight and slow down, while pumping the brakes, but I was forced to pit and bleed my brakes after every 10 laps. It was a real pain in the ass, holy crap.
So now, i find myself with yet another laundry list of parts to on my wish list, to build a solid braking system.
-AMS 330 mm r33 vspec slotted rotors up front, slotted rotors in the rear
              -Stainless brake lines
              -Motul 600/660 brake fluid
              -AMS carbon pads or HPS/HP+

I will also look into some R compounds for tracking, the 452's help up decently, but as the day went on i was begging for more grip. The azenis will probably be my move next season.

Here are some pics, many many more to come!

and finally, some other misc shots from the day.

              My Personal favorite:

So again, i find myself discouraged. After everything thats been done to the car, I still think of all the crap i have left to do, and it feels endless..... Stay tuned for whatever comes next, I'm sure it wont disappoint!

                    • ^^ like cobraa said, AMS carbon pads are NOT track pads, i would even rank them below HAWK HPS

and wait on getting the AMS R33 BBK, i'll be taking my front brakes apart tomorrow, but just by looking at my AMS rotors, they seem glazed to hell, must be the reason why i had far less braking power than i should have had
so my first tought i that the alloy used for the discs are far from 'premium'

Exactly what I wanted to ask you. review on the ams bbk!

Yes, I know the AMS pads are not designed for track use. But they will be included with the rotors, and for now, I have to try to eliminate some expenses as funds are tight.
For the price, I'm not expecting an INSANE braking system. With The ams rotors, stainless lines, motul rbf600 and hps pads, I'll have more than enough stopping power for the time being.

                          • well, look at it this way,
last year i had the stock BNR32 calipers with HP+ pads, SS lines and RBF660, with stock 296mm rotors
this year i got the same HP+ pads, SS lines, RBF660m, but got bigger Brembo BNCR33 calipers, and AMS' R33 324mm rotors

and friday, at sanair, i had FAR LESS braking power than last year, so the weakest link is probly those rotors,
i have a set of oem BNCR33 that i'll try for a couple of days to see if theres any difference

That sounds strange... I feel like with the mods you did, those rotors wouldn't hinder braking performance that much.. a member on gtrpwr used those rotors with r32 calipers, carbon ceramic pads and ss lines and said they held up great for autox.... on the track, he said the pads were a little sub par though, but he said the rotors were awesome. let me know how your testing goes.

                              • auto x VS high speed track like sanair ,the high speed track puts alot more heat/stress on those rotors.
