  • Godzilla90 FIx-er upper 1990 R32

Now that the winter is almost over, not being able to build has allowed me to save up some money to get to work on my almost bone stock RB26. Im not looking for huge power gains, Around 400 Hp tops is all im looking for. Ive done a bit of research on what most people seem to be putting on their RB26's to get modest gains, and i think this is the best resource for information. I'm completely open to criticism, as this is a completely new thing for me, and theres a learning process. So far what ive ordered is:
    N1 Water pump
N1 Oil pump.. Ive gotten the gist that those are two items crucial for upgrading.

Other components and parts that ive researched and think would be beneficial are:
    Tomei Expreme Ti exhaust
Tomei Decat pipe[no emission testing where i live ]
    GReddy Downpipe
    AEM TRU-BOOST Boost controller gauge
    AEM Digital air/fuel wideband gauge
GReddy Oil cooler and filter relocation kit
    Tomei strengthened timing belt
GReddy intercooler with hard piping kit

Thats a start, any input would be appreciated. I'm in the midst of researching injectors, turbochargers and clutch upgrades.

well if the engines going to be opened up i'd also suggest a metal head gasket (metal gaskets all around), arp studs etc for piece of mind

You couldnt have done too much research if you think a n1 water pump is crucial. Not only is it not crucial but it is not even beneficial unless you plan on tracking regularly. for regular driving an oem water pump is more beneficial. Also simply slapping a n1 oil pump on wont do anything to solve the oil drive issue in your pre 94 rb26. you will need to get a crank collar machined to fit the clearances of the inner gear of your oil pump.

I made 355 whp which is around 400 at the crank with a mediocre HKS exhaust, Apexi filter kit, a PFC and PFC boost controller. As far as I know that's all that has been done to the car for power adders. I had R34 turbos but they don't affect peak power just curve... I think.

I track the $hi+ out of the car and haven't had a single oiling issue except it starts to get pretty warm.

I think all you need to do to make 400HP with a GTR is sneeze.

This is the information that i need,i appreciate the feedback,i think the word "crucial" was blowing my emphasis out of proportion, two owners that ive been in touch with both upgraded to N1 so it seems like its the thing to do. Im going to look up and see what i can find about getting the crank collar machined to fit the clearances of the inner gear, thanks.

Don't waist your money on head studs. Not needed at your power level.
                You can't fix stupid.

well you cant reuse the oem bolts.. so might as well buy studs so you can reuse them later down the road.

There's more reasons to not using arp on a budget build than $. Do your own research. Don't always listen to the forum chatter.
