    1999 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R

“When you put good will out there its amazing what can be accomplished”
    - Paul Walker, Founder of Reach Out WorldWide.

For many people a car is not simply a showpiece but a true companion to their lives. It is said life is too short to drive boring cars, therefore here at Underground Performance we are always interested in vehicles that can truly accompany us through each and every adventure we may have. This connection between an individual and their car means that it is not a static show piece as much as it’s an extension of their personality and lifestyle, and so for us our cars are constantly evolving, just as our company is.
Back in 2009 we gave iND Distribution a 2008 BMW M3 and shared an idea with them to develop a project that could be viewed as a wonder of the world! It is a car that turned the heads of many, not only tuners but also families and children all over the world. No matter where we go there’s a story to be told: The Silver Ghost doesn’t only have that unique look to drop jaws anywhere it goes but it also holds enough power to disappear off into the distance shocking all those who are watching! Underground Performance now brings you the car most commonly known as “Gojira” (Godzilla) a 1999 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R. Although cars don’t remain stock in our hands for long, we are always on the search for something different to keep the adrenaline in our veins flowing. You know you’ve purchased the right vehicle when you can’t take your eyes off it or its all you think about. This April, we will be bringing our tribute R34 GT-R to North American Soil. Based on the way the car has been created and designed as well as the parts used and added to modify this beast we will call this project: “Ginryō” (Silver Dragon).
It is said that everything happens for a reason, because it is a part of natural instinct. Everything that occurs around nature is for a purpose. Nature takes nothing in vain. When a man realizes the full potential behind nature it leads them to unleash an apocalypse. To design and create a mechanism that revolves around your perspective and image is a masterpiece in disguise. To the creators of the metal storm or the silver bullet their target was to create the fastest weapon/bullet in the world. When there is a reason behind a motive, it allows us to move forward precisely and aim to reach our goals in a timely manner. The reason for this car couldn’t be any more clearer, 2014 was the year we were going to make a difference in the world, by raising awareness on why donating to the Reach Out WorldWide charity organization can actually help relief efforts.
If it weren’t for Kunal Arneja we wouldn’t be a proud owner of a R34 GT-R. He caught on to our passion for building cars and knew the exact way to bring that JDM Nissan love in us back out to play. Many years ago we used to discuss about getting an R34 GT-R but never thought we would be able to actually own one. The idea of an R33 as a daily driver was always an option in our minds but years later we are now holding the keys to one of the fastest heavily modified Nissan Skyline R34 GT-Rs in North America.
It is said that the best thing to do is always believe in yourself and you should always trust your gut instinct. Back in October this car came into the auction, after Kunal and his fantastic team got the full breakdown on the car purchasing this vehicle was questionable to the point where Kunal told me it would be a very risky buy. Though it is said to not judge a book by its cover or that you can’t see the true detail of the car with the cover on. Sometimes you have to take a risk and just pay to play. I don’t encourage gambling but this was one of those times were it seemed like the righteous buy.
After speaking with Kunal I decided that the best option was to take his advice and bid lower than expected and see what happens. He tried to assure us that playing risky with these kinds of vehicles could be dangerous. If I had to write a review about Kunal Arneja and his team, I’d say they definitely look out for the best interest of the client. These guys aren’t interested in making money off car enthusiast but rather are determined to assist in finding the perfect suitable car for the client that is damage free and reliable. I could sit here and write a book on the amazing hands you are in when you deal with Arneja Trading Group but that’s not the point behind this write up.
As the days and weeks passed by R34 after R34 ran through the auction, even a nice bayside blue V-spec R34 ran through, but nothing satisfied the mind or the heart like the way this silver skyline did. There was just something about that vehicle that made me want it. At this point I told Kunal that if that vehicle doesn’t come back into the auction I don’t feel like any other R34 satisfies our appetite.
As holiday season was approaching and Christmas was right around the corner Kunal was doing some searching for modified R34’s to see if he can find a vehicle that satisfies our appetite when he stumbled upon a very low KM white with some mods and all service records. As we requested more information we saw that it might actually be a good buy except for the minor rust on the underbody, which seemed common on R34’s. As we were discussing back and forth over the phone I heard a slight change of excitement in Kunal’s voice. He said, “You wouldn’t believe what just rolled into the auction”. The car I was waiting for was back and running a few days before Christmas. My response to him was priceless “I need that car, put an offer so high that no one in their right mind would be able to outbid me.”
Kunal advice is always on point though, from bidding tactics to buying strategies. A lot of research is done on a vehicle before a bid is placed, but sometimes you have to play dangerous so I went against their views and said buy the car if there’s something wrong with it we will fix it.
However he didn’t know the plan we had in mind here at Underground Performance and the reason why we needed that car. Once the legendary car enthusiast Paul Walker passed away, we figured we would pay respect to him and Roger Rodas by taking the initiative to build a tribute car in his memory as well as to raise money and donate it to his charity organization: Reach Out WorldWide, that provides assistance towards different causes such as reliefs from natural disasters. It takes one person to start something and make a difference but it takes determination and motivation to keep that dream alive.
Good karma comes around by lending a helping hand to the less fortunate people. People take life for granted but even if you make a small donation once, know that your contribution will go a long way to help where it matters!
