The only issues RB26s have are sloppy ass builders that don't seem to know how to use a micrometer. The oiling systems are solid as long as you deal with the pump drive and put a smaller restrictor in the feed for the head. You are golden to 8500rpm. I think there was much more wrong with that motor than a spun brg if everything was buggered. A budget 26 will gleefully rev to 9000 rpm IF....the builder isn't a dipshit.

Don't get too compliant with the fact that there is a JZ in there, they are less problematic than an early RB but by no means bullet proof. Stock is a touch tougher but suffer from a valve train that doesn't like to rev. Oiling is about the same.

Don't get me wrong, I like the swap, I have been shoe-horning small block chevys into cars that never had them for a long time. So on a dare to be different level it works.....on a "it's going to be more reliable than a properly built factory motor" level....not so much.

      Jon.

love it , couldent said any better

      i have A RB32 , built by rips, 3.2 LITER yes . REV TO 9000RPM all day not a problem ,

RB are GOD engine , and they are making crazy records , look at heat treatment , FASTEst RB26 in the world at 7.3 sec on the quarter for a RB26 , runs on methanol and 55 psi but still ,

RB are crazy motor , wen they are build right by the right people and then u need to pay those guyz ,
and its not that expensive cuz U KNOW u wont have to do it again , and that was my main concern

saying that RB dosent like to rev pass 7000 rpm this is FOOLISH saying that , rb26 LOVE the rev , they ADORE it

my stock RB26 r 34 motor , wit the tomei pump and the extendend sump and the rear oil drain kit , LOVED the 8500 rpm And that was on stock valve train , stock head just cams ,

JZ are good motor , but saying that a Jz is a beter motor then a RB , ill say like my Girlfriend always says

ITS A CROCK OF **** lol

      good luck wit your project

Adding an extended sump and rear oil drain kit doesn't make it a stock motor. You had to re-engineer the oiling system to prevent the common over oiling to the head issues...

Well it turned out the original builder didn't put in the restrictor and the pistons were not sized correctly.

Earlier this year, the Titan Motorsports and EKanoo Racing Toyota Supra set a new world record for the quickest import across the quarter mile with the

Fastest supra 6.15 second 1/4 soo I guess the "GOD" RB still has some ground to cover.

At the end of the day only time will tell lol I don't have any intention of making huge power (450whp). If all else fails it will end up with a 2jz bottom end.

Car is running and will have more pics soon.

From your original parts list -- there seemed to be a lot of potential! Sucks to hear that the builder didn't build it up properly. I've had that happen to me and I'm sure it has happened to a number of us on here... Makes it a good idea to learn how to do as much work as possible on your own. Still... I hope you sold off the functioning parts to cover some of the costs of your new swap.

And I hate to break it to you... But that Supra (if you can even call it that anymore) was made by sinking a LOT of money into it. Anyone with deep pockets can accomplish that using cars within this tier. I'm sure if the same guy picked up an RB26 -- he'd be making similar numbers IMHO. Note: That's not to say that the JZ motors aren't great...

Anyways, good luck with the build and keep this thread updated! I'd like to see where this goes....

Soo as far as an update goes there really isn't too much to report, other than I should have my car next week sometime.

              I did manage to sell off a few parts to cover some of the cost associated with the swap, and the new motor will be no where near the old one in terms of power (425 awhp). That's the thing about the car world anyone with deep enough pockets can make what they want a reality. I really had 3 options with this project;

Swap in a stock rb26 put on salvageable parts on it and go (cheapest/quickest option)
Rebuild existing block and replace everything that was damaged (the original engine had over 13k into it) soo expensive in its own right
Swap for something different and still make big power (1jz 600whp reliably on stock bottom)

As far as the future goes I want to swap to single, 264 cams, larger injectors, top feed fuel rail, an inline fpr, and maybe meth...

I'm trying for 450-500whp with fast throttle response

500rwhp is definitely doable without meth injection on pump gas using the parts you've listed there... But that would depend on your tuner I suppose.

                Good luck with the build!

Sorry for the long delay but there really wasn't much to report. I picked up my car yesterday from the mechanic with my swap finally completed. The 1jz is pretty capable even in near stock form, with traction breaking power in 3rd gear. Anyway here are some pics of it completed.

how did you bolt the jz up to the drive train? custom drive shaft or any of that or did the jz tranny bolt right up?
