  • New top end, possible oil pump failure

Just put a new cylinder head on my 26, however after priming the motor and starting it, within the first 3 seconds, my gauge was reading zero oil pressure and the light was on so I immediately shut it off to investigate, pulling off the oil cap there's no oil on the cam. I'm a little worried as i'm uncertain of the oil pump condition and it's history. I picked up the car with bent valves as a project and now i'm wondering if i need to wait more than a couple seconds to allow oil to properly cycle, how to test the oil pressure sensor, or if its reading zero pressure because of a pump failure?

Thanks ahead of time and sorry if it seems like a stupid question to ask.

Edit : Hasn't run in half a year

Unplug cas, take off oil filter, take off spark plugs, then crank engine and see if oil comes out? Or crank it until you see oil? My guess...

    Good luck!

I installed a new oil pump on my RB26 last year. It took quite a while of cranking for it to build oil pressure. Definitely some tense times though, hope it works out for ya

Also you'll need to reset the ECU afterwards to clear the CAS error code. Pull the negative battery cable off, press brake a few times to remove any left over charge. Then reattach the negative battery cable.
