  • Project: BNR32-002571 "Tuna on white, no crust"

This build thread will be documenting the progress of my 89 GTR as I revive her from years of living in the shadows and lift her up to reach her full potential.

Long story short on this car it has been in Northern Saskatchewan for several years and in fact parked between these two campers for a year and half neglected! When the owner decided to sell I couldn't resist!

Originally from BC myself, I plan on returning and rebuilding this car to make a few passes at Mission raceway. I have experience in building other turbo vehicles but never had an rb26 before.

The best part of the GTR was the fact even though it runs rough, it started on its own and was able to drive...

    One other bonus aside from my wife being the one who bought the car, is popping the hood on what you expect is a stock GTR for the price and seeing this;

Greddy T88-33d is a surprise but exciting none the less to re-build this vehicle to unleash the true power potential..

Stay tuned as I will be posting lots of pictures and information about the car, if anybody knows more about this gem in the rough please fill me in on the history!

The plan is to pull the engine this winter, parts have already been ordered !

This will decimate all after you put about 15 grand into it or more.

Got the car in the garage on jack stands last week and started to take apart some parts for further inspection into the project. Some interesting quick connect wiring done to the headlights..

Front bumper came off and I sanded it to prep for re-painting

Behind the front bumper is an ARC FMIC and a nice Trust oil cooler

Stay tuned for the interior pictures...

Took some of the interior pieces out that will be used as Christmas decorations on the tree.

It was amazing seeing how all of them were wired off the cigarette lighter..I took 80% of the hack wiring out though on the plus side.

However once I got to the ECU I realized I will need to buy an uh-molested wiring harness as I do not want to re-solder 40 wires for something as important as the ECU. Looks like at one point it had a piggy back on the ecu ( brown connector?) still can't believe it turned over and started on the stock ecu with exposed wires like this.

With all this negativity above I figured I should post some goodies I recently purchased ...Haltech platinum pro being one.

Bought a new(er) wiring harness, took out the old junk....even the MAF wiring was molested. poor car.

Been awhile since the last update... Before I started taking all the electronics off I did do a compression test on the engine and found the following

                  Cylinder 1 - 90

                  Cylinder 2 - 110

                  Cylinder 3 - 120

                  Cylinder 4 - 120

                  Cylinder 5 - 120

                  Cylinder 6 - 110

I also took a sample of the dirty oil which was never changed and submit it for analysis, can't say enough good things about the company~! Pretty quick response and the results helped show that the engine was in dire need of a full rebuild.

I took apart most of the interior as well, happy to see that the chassis hasn't seen significant trauma

Most of the engine parts have been removed, getting read to pull the engine in the next month..... Looks like Cylinder 3 has been causing a lot of mischief. The turbo manifold was disgusting on this vehicle, cracks all along the welds. Time for a new twinscroll top mount.

                            Thanks bobbo!
I bought the haltech ecu right from them directly! Super easy and they mailed it right to my house without any issues. Highly recommend dealing with them.
