  • .4 litres isn't making a 2000 RPM difference in spool. Maybe 750-1000 RPM's tops.

I am a big fan of RB30's though, and if you can't see the benefits of one then why don't you go back to an RB20? Yeah there's some cost associated with machining the sump to work with AWD, but RB30 shortblocks themselves are dirt cheap and you can build one of these on a sensible budget.

as i said in my post
these numbers were taken from a close set up from a member on gtroc.uk

Yes RB30 blocks can be bought for around $500aud, and yes you can put it together and make it work for a very little amount of money.
      but here are the differences,
      Example one

      1) you can cheap out and run a cheap fitting and rubber hose as a external oil pick up

      (note the red tube)

(homedepo brass fitting design to be use in your toilet)

(rubber hose clamed with your gardening hose clams)

(this is even worst, it only has a clamP)

(this one is alittle better then the rest ... but i don't want that garbage in my car..sorry)

As you can see, Yes an engine can be build very cheaply, but this is what you will get. it prob won't be save and it will leak sooner or later
      OR

you can spend alittle more money and get something like this, prob won't ever leak, service able.

REAL Stainless fittings made to 100% perfect fitment, weld on, stainless lines, and proper heat protection.

as you can see above is an example of where money goes to.

      • EXAMPLE #2 is this
Gear box, many of u know, 4wd rb30 is 10mm lower due to a sump adapter is used, some ppl chose to grind out the thin metal of the oil pan OR the tranny and stick a bolt in.

(i personaly won't feel save driving 800-1000hp with a bolt half showing through the casting, WOULD YOU ? )

        here's why i spend an extra $1000.
a huge block of metal was welded to the sump just so i can have 4 holes 10mm lower, it is welded all over the back and braced for strength
NOW I FEEL SAVE PUTTING 800-1000hp at it.

        What would you pick ?

        • EXAMPLE #3

          Head oil return
someppl would use homedepo fittings, but i won't

          OR

i think after looking 3 examples, you can conclude that Yes you can build it cheap, and will prob work just fine, but do you feeel safe driving it? will you be happy at the end that your car is done half ass ?

          well not me

          • i wasnt bashing.

just saying it is cheaper and and easier to stick with a prooven platform. you can get 2.9L out of your rb26 if you wanted to. but if you plan to make 800-1000 whp. why are you worried about spooling early. that isnt a car you will be driving on the street everyday.... Or at least (I) wouldnt want to, no power below 5-6,000rpms... IMO cars with that much HP are for the track, or are a dyno Queen..... I dont know you, so i cant judge. I was just curious as to why you chose to go the hard way is all.

seems like your car has been in the shop a long time, and i know the feeling. it sucks. But having the ability to drive your car everyday is something that i didnt understand for a long time. the last build i did, my car was driven 14 out of 24 months i had it. and i spent 70k on it... Daily driven track beast.... but i learned a lot with that build..... so now i am taking it easy on the GTR, since i drive it everyday. over 10,000klms in the last couple months...

              WERD.

Felix, im not saying it's not ******* awesome, cause it is. But it is just such a goddamn waste of money to build an rb30 like you're doing, i know you "are all about the build" and all that, but im more of a person who does things the most logical way....ie....right, without spending unnecessary money.

RB26 would have been easier.....and would make as much or more power as an rb30 (fastest gtr's are all rb26), oh, and you'd have been driving it for 6 months already......lol, instead of 3 years from now....

Also....2000 rpm spool difference....hahaha....maybe between a dead stock rb26 and a tuned, built up rb30.....apples to oranges here.....

              • Great build,

Personally if i did a RB30 i would have just got my engine built by R.I.P.S., no wait time, built to your specs and built right, and still creates the same power. They will even do RB33:bow down: I would have choose a 2.9L first thou, much easyer and less time consuming lol

I dont think i have the patience to do a build like that with all the custom fabrication, dont get me wrong i would like building that monster but in 2 years i would go crazy

                good luck,

                      • why do ppl always say......" why didnt' u do it the easy way ?"

life isn't easy, and there are always challenging things you have to deal with. and you learn from going through these challenges. right ?
so i think it's worth it for me to build this car even tho is waste of time because i learn alot from it, and i won't regret one bit of it.

                        OK
                        change of topic please.

                                Agreed 100%

                                Keep the build threads objective.

Everyone has their reasons to do things. Some people think going sideways around a track for subjective scores is a waste of time and money. To each their own.

Keep the thread going Felix, sickest GTR in Canada no doubt, and that includes the new ones arriving soon
