  • GTR Weird exhaust/sputter problem

    Hey,

So I was driving my GTR today, and sometimes it would sputter for a couple seconds then be fine. Also, the exhaust is noticibly blacker.

Do you think my packs are fouled and should be changed?

Not running as much boost as I am sposed to be? (I still have stock gauge so its useless)

My guess is its probably running rich for some reason, but not sure.

Odd. Every now and again, when I'm in low RPM and I load up, I get a weird exhaust sputter also but the engine doesn't bog or anything. My plugs are newer and it only does it sometimes. I try to ignore it since it's so intermittent.

Ya I have ALOT of black residue in my tail pipe. The car idles like new, runs well and has factory tune. Odd... No engine light or anything.

          Maybe check your ignition timing?

I was getting alot of black soot on my bumper around my exhaust pipe untill I checked my ignition timing.
It was retarded so I reset it to 20 Degrees BTDC and I don't have that problem anymore.

so how exactly do you "reset it"

or check it for that matter

Check it with a timing gun and you rotate the CAS to advance/retard. Make sure the car is at operating temp when you do it. I'm pretty sure the 3rd last mark on the crank pulley is 20 degrees BTDC.
