  • Lots of shifter play since new tranny

My tranny was whinning bad so I bought a freshly rebuilt tranny from a member here. It's quiet and doesn't grind but I found there's a lot more play in the lever from side to side then my old tranny. I took the boot of the center console and checked all the bolts and they're tight. I know my shifter was taken from the old tranny to be installed in the new one. Anything I should be looking for? I'll have time to look into it tomorrow.

Sounds like the shifter bushing to me. Did you forget it when you swapped your shifter over?

    That little white bushing.

so I took a look at it today and the plastic ring (see pic with arrow) is moving quite a bit. I didn't take the shifter out as i didn't have my pliers handy but the ring movement accounts for all the play I have.

          you need a new bushing.

i have no idea what the part number is but I need one too :P

I'd buy them all for that nice new transmission feel.

in the mean time, can I wrap something around the existing bushing to take most of the loose away???
