  • possible boost leak

just got my car tuned for 410 hp at the wheels....yeah im happy about that.....at low rpm my boost picks up nice, but at high rpm, around 6-7 revs, my boost seems to taper off, before the tuning, profec b spec 2 was installed, everything on the dyno seemed to work with the boost controller, it was only after, i checked for vacuum leaks and found none that my eyes could see, a buddy of mine told me to check the recirculating valve pressure and see if it holds because if they didint, it would seem as if at high rpm the wastegate would open up before set boost. can anyone confirm this?

oh and also, could i use a propane to check for vacuum leaks on a rb?

I have heard some people say they have used propane to check..... but please dont quote me on it. I may be wrong, should wait for Mcfly or somebody else to reply to know 100%

bens right, i check for mine with propane, start up your car, and get a coleman propane torch, turn it on but dont light it lol and slowly run it over your lines, if your idle jumps, replace line

So do you reach your target boost on the controller or not ?

100% is most likely the duty cycle, not the target boost. Get a hold of the manual and start reading.

in the manual it says that to set boost 0 is stock, 50% is half and 100% is full boost, then theres gain, and then set boost, then warning then limit...

Yeah 0% would be no boost and 100% the wastegate limit.

Pick a percentage, give her and check the peak value to see if you got your peak boost. If not change percentage or gain.

Well it's all in the manual really.

Set boost, gain, start boost and limiter.

Any of these could be your problem. Make sure you understand what they do and how they work with each other.

Forgot to mention: 11 psi is most likely the wastegate opening pressure so that a big hint right there that your settings are wrong...

Like Etienne said, it's most likely a settings problem. Read the manual on setting up duty/cycle/boost for your controller.

Usually you need to know the peek boost with controller off, and then set your duty accordingly to what pressure you want to achieve.

well while i was at work i decided to check the cat back, and lo and behold i found some small metal shards at the cat, could this possible mean that my turbo is starting to deteriorate? i tried also to adjust the settings but still no further than 1 bar, i mean has anyone ever blown a r34 n1 turbo before?, also i forgot to mention this too, after the tune i was backfiring a lot, so i decided to plug the origional ecu back in and the back fire is gone??? my freaking car has gone to **** now, nothing is working
