  • RB26 head build.

I am finally getting around to building my RB26 head. I had a son back in March so it kind of put things on hold. Anyways I contacted Ztune about helping me out with the build as i live in kelowna and i just dont trust any shop up here with it. also ztune retails tomei so they can get the odds and ends for me if i need them.

    So far i have

Used early RB26 head minus cams and shim's, looks to be in good condition.
    Tomei ProCams 280deg
    Tomei spec C valve springs
    Tomei Lifters
    Tomei Guides
    Tomei Seats

I plan on using the tomei cam studs, with stock valves and retainers. I am not gonna have much done to the head. Just cleanup, knife edge intake splitter. deshroud intake valves (Can anyone explaine this in plain english?)
does anyone have any suggestions as to anything i may have missed that is a necessity. I am trying to keep the budget small as I have diffrent prioritys.

Can anyone comment on Ztunes Machine work, I know they must source it out. Any First Hand Experience?

I believe deshrouding is usually done when going for bigger valves. It involves "boring" the combustion chamber so that the bigger valve or higher lift doesn't come in contact with the chamber wall.

Dropped it off at ztune on monday and it should go in for machine work on wensday, looks like i am getting a mild portpolish/cleanup and having them install a provision for oil drainback. coolend passage cleanup, aswell as machining clearences for procams and associated install of cams/springs/guides/seats/lifters/shims/camstuds.

should make for quite a nice swap.

The Tomei Type-C springs are pretty nice! With those cams and porting, I'm pretty sure you'll be quite pleased

A tomei complete head runs around $6000 USD. How much do you figure you're in when done the head work (It should be much less since you don't have as much as that head comes with). Just to get an idea of the price difference including labour but not install.

The tomei head has tomei oversized valves and everything is done by them. You can garantee there is NO better head than a tomei head. shipping is the killer lol.

Wow that is horrible, with their prices you think that you would get superior support.
