  • How to test a BOV if it's leaking? Need help ASAP

    Hello,

I recently took off my BOV, they are AP BOV that look like HKS SSQV's. There was rust on the flanges so I rewelded them and painted them. I decided to test them but I don't think my method works, basically I blew in the BOV's inlet to see if they leaked. One of them seems to have a very slight leak if I blow hard. Now I'm wondering if when the BOV's are in the car if the vaccum line helps to shut the BOV. How should I properly test the BOV's? Is it normal to have a very very small small leak when you blow in the inlet of the BOV?

    Thanks in advance
    Mitchell

knock off ssqv's leak like sieves
you shouldn't be able to make it leak at all with your lung pressure.

Would you suggest fixing my BOVs or just switch to new ones. If I get new ones which kind should I get?

      Thanks in advance,

personal preference. Seeing as though you bought knock-off ssqv's, get the real deal. Can't go wrong with HKS, kinda ricey sounding though.

Unfourtanetly I didn't even know my car had knock-offs, the guy who sold it to me told me they were HKS SSQV's then I took off my bumper and realized I got screwed. If I would of bought them I woulda got the HKS forsure. I actually fixed the BOV last night by taking them apart and cleaning them. I'm ordering a Synapse Synchornic or HKS Racing BOV, and I will be running the BOV as a recirc not a VTA. I have to still decide on which but at least I can run the knock-offs in the mean time.

if running recirc with absolutely no plans of venting in the future then get the synchronic
            otherwise get the HKS racing

I went with HKS SSQV (used for 500km) and I gotta say, I sound like a riced out civic or SRT4.... Anyone running the HKS racing BOV? I'd like to hear some sound clips to know if I'm better off selling the nearly new unit in favor of a quieter HKS racing BOV...

I heard taking off the fin helps to get rid of the 'riced out sound'. I ordered the Synapse Synchronic in the end, it looks like a good unit. I'll take sound clips when I get it. It also has a SSQV flange adapter so it's pretty much bolt-on. I wanted the HKS Racing Type II but it was a 2-3 week wait plus shipping time. I ordered the BOV from Image in Motion in British Columbia which is an offical Synapse Engineering Distributor. The Synchronic also has a anti-stall kit you to run it vent to atmosphere without stalling or running rich (which I never had a problem with anyways).
