  • aftermath of clutch change

I changed out my clutch this weekend and a few things have happen as a result.

    1. speedo worked for first minute of test drive, then went to 0 and hasn't moved since.
    2. after 5 to 10mins of driving the hicas light comes on and stays on.
    3. once the hicas light comes on the steering is heavy. (still have awd though, the torque gauge still moves if I hammer on the gas.)
    4. turn the car off, back on, hicas light reset and steering normal.

I've searched, but not getting anywhere.

any ideas from anyone as to where to start looking?

I've tried the hicas self-diagnostics, but haven't figured out the light sequence.

    Update:

    hicas diagnostic is saying
    5. Speed sensor error
    8. Clutch sensor error
    9. Neutral sensor error

guess I'll drain the transfer case and make sure the speed sensor is correctly installed.

problems 2, 3 and 4 are all related to speedometer not working as stated above.

            update:

drained the transfer case and pulled the speedo out. looked fine.
ended up suspending the car and pulling the cable out of the speedo to make sure it was spinning inside. it was, so I think it must be where the cable connects under the dash that has come loose.

should I pull the dash cluster out and check the connection? can I get to it without pulling the dash? there's a heater vent blocking from underneath. if I remove it will I be able to see where the speedo cable ends?

Buddy, almost all the skylines get this sh!t with speedo cable, it's grinds itself inside little white connector between cable and speedometer in your cluster, fix that and your hicas and powersteering problem will go away. Because computer takes speed reding in your CLUSTER not in your transfer case or tranny.
