  • Crank pulley

Hey guys do you have any idea of how to unscrew that F***** screw that holds the crank pulley...I have tried to unscrew it with a impact gun but no results...is it clockwise or counter clockwise threaded?? i need your help since i am in a rebuilt process

Car in gear, e brake on. Put your ratchet/socket on and grab a long breaker bar, I use the handle off my jack. Normal threads on it.

another way is to put the breaker bar against the frame rail or ground and flick the ignition it works beautifully, and im sure sparking the starter when the motors out would do the same just not sure how you'd hold the block still lol

mine was a complete nightmare, it involved me and a friend hanging off the end of a 6ft snype, and that was still moving the car in 5th gear with the park brake on so my dad stood on the brakes at the same time. i though i was going to break my crank. you could always try to borrow a bigger (3/4" or 1") impact if the engine is out.

am currently doing my Timing belt. you just need a big breaker bar and lock the crank somehow. my problem is I unscrew that bolt. its hanging out but won't come out. WTF Any ideas?

For OP: go rent a bigger air gun.

r3gill: what do you mean hanging out? What's hanging out where?

r3gill, i think what you're saying is the bolt is out but the pully is still on. you'll need a puller to get it off. or you could always try prying it. it is an interference fit on the crank.

A dead blow hammer and the right size socket can take it out without needing to lock the engine in place. I did it easily 3-5 good whacks and voila. You're inpact gun is underpowered or your compressor is not flowing enough CFM...

the balancer has rubber on it, i took mine off with an electric impact gun from ct 250lbs tq max, just hold the gun on there even if it takes 10 minutes, eventually it will loosen.

do you have a heavy dead blow hammer?

personally i wouldn't want to be putting any heavy heat around a critical area like that. and yes, the damper does have rubber.

I'm with NismoS-tune on this one, give the bolt a good few whacks with a hammer, use a big deadblow or get a big punch and hit it with a 2lb hammer. The problem is the threads of the bolt have siezed - hitting it with a hammer should free up the threads. I do this often to free up jammed bolts and it usually works.
