Solid subframe bushing install

so I just installed my shiny new AMS solid subframe bushings and Im currently re-installing the subframe and Im noticing a problem. With the new bushings installed the subframe is going to sit too high. The studs that hold the subframe run out of threads before the nut can support the subframe. Now my question is do I need to re-use those metal collars that came off the old bushings. not the ones that are pressed into the subframe but the ones that go over the stud on eitehr side of the subframe. Also I have heard of people having to use a spacer, is this confirmed?

i just seen ur build and u used s13 or r32 gts bushings when u need gtrs. pm c-unit and ask him how his are

Yes, the S13 subframe works on R32, however, the GTR studs are too long so I machined some spacer for it to fit.

they maybe do only sell one but they are not for a gtr just cuz gtr studs are longer

I personally think that this is fine to have used those bushings.

If you think about it, having those in there brings the geometry of the suspension closer to the car. You get approx 3/4 of an inch. Now your suspension doesnt need to be slammed. The geometry of your control arms ect will be more leveled when the car is lowered in comparison.

Just double up those big crown washers. Run 2 of them on each of the rear mounts and then make a spacer for the front mounts or use washers as you ran out of threads. I think from memory doing this the front of the cross member will nearly touch the bottom of the car. If it is close just pry a lil to bend the sheet metal on the bottom of the car. Sounds ghetto but wtf, who cares. That part of the car is not important really. The GTR member rubber mounts are just a lil higher than the gts and S13 members. That is the reason for this problem. I bet all the companies that make a solid bushing only make the one style. I may be wrong tho.

My brother just did a gtr rear member in his V8 silvia and we had to pry just about 1/4 inch to have a 1/8 inch of clearance. Didnt want to hear any rattling from under there when driving.

I also did a GTR member in my Cefiro.

Here is a pic. I just cut off about 1/2". I was running collars tho :P But you get the idea of the difference.

P.S. I was using a thick cut off wheel.

gtr would need a spacer. GTS/S13 dont.

The gtr simply has a longer stud and the OEM bushing to suit the longer stud also lowering the subframe creating even more un natural suspension geometry.

So to anwser your question, you would need a spacer on the bottom to be able to thread the bolt on without running out of threads. The GTR crown washers can do this and I would assume they will have a perfect fit into the power by max bushings and collars whichever you decide to go with. keep in mind, the collars may require modification to work properly. Like what I did to my gtr subframe into my Cefiro.

I just test fitted my ams subframe bushings and I cant event get the studs to go through the bushing cause the clearance is to tight.I guess i'll have to drill theholes out a little larger.Anybody else have that problem?

Will it not even go through one bushing? If you are having trouble getting the stud through both try this:

Instead of drilling it out go get a grade 8 nut and bolt that is close to the diameter of the hole in the spacers. Get a decent sized washer for both ends. Put the nut and bolt through it and give it all you can with an impact. This straightened mine out and the subframe went on easy peasy. They really didn't move much but it made a big difference.
