  • rad\coolant hoses bursting, why?

Just bought a GTR, car ran perfect, boosted fine and I drove it home on the hwy for an hour when I first got it. First day I put it on the road I was driving it for 20 min then popped the hood to show a friend and all a sudden the top rad hose makes a souns and starts squirting out through a pin hole. I electrical taped it to get home and sure enough didn't make it, it completely bursted about 10 min after, I replaced the hose and noticed the rad and lines are full of sludge like a chocolate milkshake so oil is in the coolant yay so drove it for about 20 minutes again and then blew a coolant hose behind the head which I cannot get at. Ok I know I'm gonna get a few responses, cracked head, seals in the turbo gone, hg but could the hoses be just very old and britle. The guy I bought it from had it for 2 years and never put it on the road. Any help?

Well the hoses definitely are old and brittle, I had a heater hose burst on me behind the motor too. Id replace all of them, samco makes a nice set.

The oil in the coolant is what you really need to be worried about. I cant remember which one, but you either have a blown HG or a cracked block.. and unfortunately, from what i remember, a cracked block would be the cause for oil in the coolant. Cross your fingers bud.

Drain the coolant and refill are you sure its coolant? Some knob may have just run water in the system. This would be a problem if never changed and left to freeze over the winter. drain flush and refill and go from there. It may be a simple problem of very old hoses. a car that has not run very much. and a HG is a bit of a job. But if your going to do one might aswell yank the motor and do it which means you can build for more POWER lol.

2 KEY symptoms of a blown head gasket
              1. Brown "chocolate milkshake" coolant
              2. Popping rad hoses

From what you said above, something's up with your HG for sure dude, rbs14 hit the nail on the head, you're leaking compression into the cooling system and over pressurizing it, causing your hoses to (which, you're right, may already have been a little brittle) finally give way. It's a bit of a job to replace a HG but it'll solve your problems in the end, maybe while you're at it, you can toss a set of ARP bolts and a metal HG if you'd like to run higher boost.

thanks guys for the info< i have put it up for sale in the classifieds. I def hate myself for doing it but I have no extra money because of the purchase nor the time. Cracked block . . . . . was my guess but why am I not losing any oil in the motor?? I was guessing its a turbo seal? slow leak of oil. HG, why is there no antifreeze in my oil? why am I not getting any smoke out the exhaust? Today I will do a compression test if I can get around to it and that will give me more info

check it over really well and see it may be easier for you to park it save a bit of money and do it. If yor not mechanically inclined there is FTP in mississauga that can do a good job. Buy a cometic oem metal head gasket have the head decked (so long as it hasnt over heated the head should be a one or two plane to be level) buy a silicone hose kit of ebay toss that on all new hoses can get all the parts for about 500-600 bucks and a couple hours in labor. In the end if thats the only problem yo will be left with a ruunning gtr thats relatively reliable as opposed to bailing on the car and taking a financial loss on it. give it time and learn. if you need an oem head gasket i got one you can have just need studs and decking and your good to go.

Oil press is higher than water so thats why the water doesn't get into the oil. Also it appears the leak is between the oil and water passages. If it's not getting into the cylinder it wont spew smoke out of the exhaust
