  • Speedo out of calibration.

    Hey guys,

I recently had a used MINE'S 320 km/h cluster installed in my R32 GTR. I noticed that the speed readout is off. I checked it with a GPS and the speed is off by about 12 km/h. Any ideas why? At first I thought I needed to get it calibrated, but the gauge is from a GTR so why should it be any different?

    Any ideas???

    Thanks in advance!

get the good electronics guy to check the OHM or the resistance at the back of the cluster with the original one, good guess it must be off, no idead why, then have it changed for the same or equivalent resistance

I still have the old cluster so I measured the resistance on the only resistor I could find on the back of the cluster. It is just above the speedo. It measured 22.1 ohms. I then removed the new cluster from my car and measured the resistance of that one. It was 21.8 ohms. I can't imagine that a difference of 0.3 ohms is going to throw of my readings by 12 km/h. I'm going to swap the speedo over to the original cluster and see what happens.

Well looks like that idea is out. The speedo has some kind of additional wiring harness on it and it requires some cutting to get it to fit! :s I guess I'll just install the original cluster and check the speed against my GPS to make sure that it was working properly in the first place.

In the mean time I have sent an email to MiNE'S regarding this issue and hopefully they will have an answer for me sometime next week.

Well after all of that work I'm no closer to an answer. The original speedo works fine. The speed is bang on! The only thing is that the needle flops around at low speeds, but it did that before.

I put the new cluster back together again and installed it in the car. There is no difference. The speed is still off by 12 km/h!! I wonder if this speedo is for a different year or something.

          Anyone got any ideas???????

Kenji kun, there are two different speedometers for bnr32,ie zenki and kouki you might want to check it or you already know it.

I sent an email to MiNE'S support in Japan and they said the the speedo is a direct drop in. There is no cutting required for install it fits perfectly in the stock position. I believe that this speedo is for a different version BNR32.

Just an FYI to everyone out there that wants to get a Nismo or MiNE'S speedo. If you have a chance to inspect it before you buy, make sure to open it up and confirm that it is exactly the same as the stock speedo on the inside.

Out of curiosity, what're the differences between the zenki and kouki?
