    Yup, this is where you tell yourself I have done my best to fix the problem the most economical way. Unless you are as adventuress as me (my next step would be taking the cable out and apart for a thorough cleaning), a new cable may solve your dancing needle problem.

      Mine did that for 3 months. Punched it through 3rd and 4th got into 5th and looked at the speedo. What do ya know. I'm going 0 km/h... Time for a new speedometer cable!
