  • problem with my brakes

    so after some spirited driving this weekend, my front drivers side caliper now seems to make a clicking noise when i brake and i can feel it in my pedal, and also my brakes don't seem to stop me as well but the pedal still feels hard, i would have to assume one or more pistons is wanked but i am not loosing any fluid or having that caliper stick/ heat up

    240sx with 91 gtr engine/ brakes

    Any help would be great, thanks

      Hey I know they are vented dust shields but I have seen break dust get wet and solidify in backing plate and make noice to check just pry plate back with a flat screw driver at bottom and tap backing plate with a hammer if you see chunks fall out your good

        Slight revival;

        Had this issue after a track day at Sanair recently, actually, i think the majority of us faced this issue.

        When i bought the car the brakes made the same noise. Eventually i got sick of it and pulled the calipers apart to investigate.. Simply its the guide pins that the pads sit on, that make a creaking sound everytime you apply the brakes. With excessive heat, the lube wears off, or in my case, burns and cakes itself onto the pins making them notching and loud. Best solution is to pull the pins and clean them, then regrease everything and replace..

        However the last time i did this, after the track day, which to my dismay was ridiculously hard on brakes, it didn't work so easily. I still have the notching/creaking sound after lubing everything up..

        My best idea is that the pad mounting holes themselves become caked full of dirt. On top of this, the paint or material these pads are encased in eventually comes off due to high heat. I believe the best solution to the noise besides regreasing the pins, is to clean out the mounting tabs on the pads themselves because they have a pretty hefty degree of caked on paint/brake dust.. Once this is done, they should work great again!

          nelson, have you tried to put some brake quite on the piston side of your pads? I too had creaking that drove me mad after a pad change.
          To remedy I bought new pads, new clips, new guide pins and inspected calipers for seizure with the outcome being Creaking. Again.
          Anyway, after some thought and research I discovered Nissans Brake pad shim kits which got me thinking "I never put any brake quite goop on my pads" Duh.
          Did it and all quite now. And because Im a loser and keep all my old parts good or not, I found my original wore out pads and they had goop on them.
