  • boost issue. need help.

I have a '93 R32 GTR, and have been having some boost issues the past little while.

    List of mechanical mods:

    Mines ECU
    HKS hard piping kit
    HKS intercooler
    HKS mushroom filters
    Toda racing rack
    OS Giken Twin Plate clutch
    Super spark coilpacks
    Equal length downpipe
apexi 4" exhaust w/ cat delete
all vacuum lines replaced with silicone lines

I do race the car occasionally but it is mostly a daily driver. I have, until now, been running at 14.7 psi boost. I do only have the stock gauges in right now but 2 weeks ago at a race it was showing boost to peak at 700 mmHG(14.7psi). Between then and now i have only done normal street driving. I noticed a couple days ago on the highway however that i peak at 7psi now. I can't for the life of me figure out what happened between then and now. Things to note:

    1. After the races, the car was allowed to idle for a long time to prevent turbos from cracking.
    2. Car runs 100% normally in every other aspect except boost.
    3. Boost leak test was done and car hold 30 psi easily with no leaks.
    4. ECU has been reset multiple times.
    5. Boost solenoid has been changed for new one with no change.
    6. Boost starts being built at 2100rpm, where it always has, and builds normally until 7psi.<doesn't seem to be a turbo broken.>
    7. Boost peaks at EXACTLY 7psi(slightly above 350 mmHG on my gauge) w/ no fluttering.
    8. With timid daily driving for the past 2 weeks or so, i do not know date or time that it actually started happening.
    9. Wastegates appear to be in normal condition(not stuck open) but have not been tested yet.

I think thats it. Local shop where i get my tuning done is stumped as to what this could be. Anybody have any suggestions as to what could have happened?

    i miss my boost

Check if your BOV is leaking past 7 psi and your wastegate spring.

well, boost leak, I would first check all the vacuum lines, intercooler pinpings & intercooler, intake manifold to start with. good luck

new development! after resetting the ECU and removing 4wd fuse, i hit 14 psi for one pull. then after that, max out at 7. restart car, and same thing. full boost once and then thats it. could it be a sensor triggering an issue with ECU?

Sounds like the knock sensor or the circuit is acting up, which triggers the ECU to run in safe mode after full boost. So, check your ECU for abnormal codes.

you were right, i got my nissan datascan working and it showed that the knock sensor circuit was giving a fault code. could this be because the timing has been manually advanced too far? Or is knock sensor toast? or...?
