  • R33 Dash Lights + Dome Lights + Tachometer

Alright boys and girls. I just recently bought an R33 GTR V-spec from RightDrive in Ontario. To say the least, the car is immaculate. I ran into an issue however, that compounded into another issue. Please give some advice.

My main issue was that my tachometer was periodically messing up. At differing times, the tachometer when reaching rpm's up to and over 3 to 4, would suddenly drop down to one, and often times even 0 and not climb further afterwards. Sometimes, after turning the car on and off, the tach would return to normal. I figured it could be a loose connection around the dash, so i decided that once i install new LED's for the dash i would have a peak.

I then took the dash apart, and after some test firing, i finally got the Dash lights converted to LED, and also the 3 console gauges as well. I did not notice any wiring that was bad/cut. I looked at the board and there did not seem to be any damage there as well. After putting the dash back together, my turn signals failed to work, as well as the clock, rear-window heat button, and 4 way's. So, the only thing that works on the dash now, is the LED's, the normal lights, and the AC/s control and deck. What DOES NOT work, are the turn signals, clock, 4-ways, heat button. i took the dash apart again, took all the switches out, replaced them, put it back together and still nothing. I checked the fuse panel and all are fine.

Do i have a wiring issue with the dash? Is it something else that i have over-looked?

what is going on with the Tachometer?

I haven't heard of this issue before with the 33's but I also haven't dealt with them at all. The 33's are slightly different from the 32's. The 33's come with a electronic speedo and the 33's are mechanical. May e it's something like that. But from what you mentioned I would assume it would be more along the lines of a wiring issue. I couldn't see your dash lights not working because of the speed sensor not working. I hope someone else with some more knowledge can shed some light on this issue for you
Miss driving sooooo bad! Need to get a car on the road ASAP!

The tachometer was not working properly before. It's a separate issue.
The clock, heater button, and 4 ways don't work along with my turn signals, as i suspect has something to do with me taking the dash apart to install the LED's.

Something i forgot to mention was that i also tried to installed bulbs in the map reading lights above, as well as the dome light. When attempting this, i blew a fuse. i replaced it and blew another. I recently replaced that and have not tried to do it again. My hopes was that the lights would continue to work once i replaced the fuse. Not to be.

Okay I had the same problem as you. I took the dash out of my R33 GTS to refinish it because that rubbery stuff was all torn and scratched. I would double check to make sure all your plugs were plugged back into you heater control stuff because when I forgot to plug just one in I lost turn signals, heater controls, and my all ways. I drove without a dash for a few hours and thats why. The only thing directly plugged into the dash should be the clock, and also the sensor through the little slotted vent to the left of the steering column. If those two are unplugged you'll have the issue of a short in every other function.

So double check those! The little sensor I'm talking about is the one that has the hose going into it, almost looks like the little sensor inside a maf if you get the idea. Let me know if any of this works.

        Cheers

I also did a quick check for the tach problem, it could just be coincidence that they both don't work but here is a how to on checking/fixing it I believe.

So the problem with the tachometer does not seem to be doing it anymore now. Not sure if thats because i went through, unplugged everything and made sure it was seated properly, but it worked. Same thing with all my other sensors as well. Thanks for the advice.
