  • [HICAS] Bad Handling on HWY + Light on

When I am driving on the highway it feels like my ass end is swinging out excessively on ice and snow. The HICAS light is on after about 5 minutes of highway speed. The light will not come on if I'm driving around town.

      ... obviously a HICAS problem.

Hicas only works at speeds above 80km/hr, thats why u only feel it at highway speeds.

as for the reason, there's a how to diagnose HICAS issues guide somewhere if someone can find it....

but in any case the solution to ALL Hicas related issues is the same.. LOCK IT OUT AND THROW IT OUT.

        does your speedo work?

i remember when i first got my car, the speedo cable was busted, killed power steering after 10 minutes of driving and made the car all squirrely on the highways...

is your alignment off? steering wheel cockeyed? if it is that was my hicas problem. the ring of sensors in the wheel got screwed up. hope that helps.

            Hey guys,

I got an aftermarket steering wheel. I have a working speedo and the alignment seems alright. It only drives badly on ice. Can you just pull the HICAS fuse to disable it?

No you need to put a lockbar to prevent the HICAS rack from moving by replacing it with that bar.

Ok, do you guys think the after market steering wheel could be whats causing all the issues? Is there some sensory in the wheel that tells the computer where the wheel is?

Yes there is a sensor in the wheel (in the middle where the horn is).

So I guess my after market wheel is missing that sensor or its not hooked up. Do you think getting a stock wheel would solve the issue? I am just curious if its easier to hook the wheel up or employ the HICAS removal kit(Still need to find the tutorial).

Just remove your current wheel and check if the sensor is there/hooked up.

Did you check for codes on the HICAS ecu? If the sensor is not connected it should give you an error code.
