Timing Mark On The Wrong Side?

  • Timing Mark On The Wrong Side?

    Hi guys!
    I just found this out yesterday upon checking on the service manual. The ones I saw on the manual is when you are standing in front of the engine, the timing marks should be on your right side. But upon checking mine I can see it on the battery side on the left. Eeek! Does it mean the mechanic has placed it incorrectly?

    just use a timing light and see if ur timing is at 20btdc whihc is i think 3rd to the right u have to see it align with the timing indicator....

      cant coz the crank pulley only goes in one way not the other....

        let the engine rotate another 60 degrees and see if it's on your RIGHT.

          So this means it is correct? What side is your timing mark located mate?

            What he means is you are looking at the balancer timing marks(that rotate with the crankshaft) hence why they appear on the left side. You can rotate the crank and line up the timing marks if you are doing the timing belt. Otherwise the reference mark to check timing with a light is on the right side. Like so:

                it can be anywhere when i start car and shut it off...the marks can land anywhere....u cant tell if ur timing is dead on without a timing gun....with engine runnind
