  • Is this catch can hooked up correctly?

Hey guys, Ive seen multiple ways to hook up oil catch cans, so I was a bit nervous about mine. If anyone could please confirm this is hooked up right (or wrong) it would be greatly appreciated. Sry about the dust, its hibernating for the winter :P

Both ends are caped, but the intake covers one of the caps. (The one just after the air filer is covered)

    Thanks in advance!!

At factory on GTS (simple version of PCV system), exhaust side camcover breather dumps air into intake pipe infront of turbo under boost, vacuum. Intake side PCV hose goes from PCV valve on intake plenum to intake camcover breather and PCV valve is open under vacuum and closed under boost. Air usually goes in the opposite direction and into intake pipe infront of turbo under boost.

What it looks like they have done is plumbed one hose on intake camcover to catch catchcan. Then one hose from catchcan to where I assume PCV valve is on RB26 engine.

Usually a catchcan like that is plumbed inbetween exhaust camcover breather, intake pipe infront of turbo on a GTS engine (street setup, as can't be vented to atmosphere). I assume GTR is similar. It's like they have done the opposite of what your meant to do.

Normally for race use on GTR you plumb 1x hose from intake camcover breather, 1x hose exhaust camcover breather to catchcan. Then 1x hose from catchcan that vents to atmosphere just behind engine.

Do you have a picture of the proper way to hook it up?

The way you have it plumbed there is not quite right. Under boost you will be pressuring up your crank case with the hose connected to the intake. When you let off the gas and your BOVs release all the pressure out of the intake system you will have a large rush of gasses/oil leaving the engine, going through your catch can and then into the intake.

I think putting a filter and letting the blowby gasses go to atmosphere instead of the intake would be better. This way you won't be running your crank case at positive pressure.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

No your right. I just got back from a visit from my buddy (GTR specialist) and he was saying i should drill and tap a little air filter on top of the can, then take the small hose (White one) and move it to the right end of the crank case vent (The one that is capped in the pic). And I should then cap the PCV in the block. Ill be doing this tomorrow and throw up a picture

The set u[p i just explainde is the best way to vent the oil fumes during boost AND idle so its def the way to do
