Hey everyone, the ball joint at the end of my HICAS bar has a lot of play so I ordered a pair of a new ones. I now notice that the parts i ordered are actually the lower ball joints on the knuckle instead of the ones at the HICAS bar. The picture of the ball joints look identical to the ones in the knuckle, right down to the taper and lock pin. Does anyone know if the ball joint at the end of the HICAS bar is the same as the lower ball joint of the knuckle?. I hope their interchangeable :P. Its pretty much just down to the diameter of the housing that gets pressed into the knuckle I guess. If this is confusing I can attach pictures of the two im comparing.

totally different pieces.
You need to buy the hicas outer ball joints from Nissan. I have yet to hear of an aftermarket supplier that makes that pieceThey are like $70ea in that area.
Easy way to get them out is similar to putting the new one in. First I take a grinder, grind off the taper part on the joint and then grind it flat with the knuckle. Right before I get close I use a polishing wheel to keep everything clean. Then, undo the coilover on the bottom, put it outta the way, get c-clamp ball joint tool, press it out, grab something like a 18mm 12pt socket and put that over the taper joint on the new one and press it in. If you dont do it that way I suppose you would have to completely remove the knuckle to push the old one out the opposite way it goes in just to fit a press behind it. Just a tipTakes me like 10-15 min a side for complete R&R once on the hoist.

Bought, shipped and installedOne other question though, do you know where I could go to get options on how to disable the HICAS system completely? Ive heard methods of the lockout bar, and also just simply unplugging it and putting in lock washers. Suggestions/opinions?

When i trash it, I normally use a non hicas subframe and get the non hicas knuckles ect, ditch all the lines and pump and remove the pump blades on the p/s pump itself and weld the fitting shut.
On my new race car I am using a GTR subframe and those were all built to suite Hicas. So Im just going to fab up some tabs and weld it on the subframe to fit the non hicas rod and slip in a poly bushing into the Hicas knuckle n call it a day.ALLEN PETERSEN
