  • Too many ground wires ?

While fiddling around under the hood trying to work out what can stay and go , I noticed there seem to be a ton of grounding wires from various places on the engine to the frame etc.

for example - 2 wires from the igniter on the rear of the engine to the frame addition to the factory loom with it's own ground.

2 wires to the crank angle sensor in addition to the factory loom.

2 wires that run from the Throttle bracket assembly directly to inner fender .

anyone have a clue if these are needed ?

anyone have an engine wiring diagram for an bcnr33 engine bay please ?

they all like they are made out of stranded speaker wire ?

hey, those sound like extras to me, maybe we could tell if you put up a photo.

as for the engine wiring diagram, theres probably one in the engine manual, you can download free from my site, just follow the instructions: http://skyline-life2.blogspot.com/p/downloads.html

well i removed all the grounding speaker wires from the engine , this is where they went :-

Crank angle sensor to left inner fender

the electronic module on the top of the engine at the back , to the right chassis ground point.

the throttle bracket to the right chassis ground point .

grounding point near the fuel pressure regulator to the right chassis ground point.

now the engine starts but when revved cuts at around 2500rpm and runs when the revs drop under said rpm .

So i guess i now have to find out which module has a crappy ground , im betting the coil energizer at the back of the engine , what do you guys think ?

Sounds like you had a make shift grounding kit. Some guys like to ground their coils. Ground kit are supposed to be beneficial to engine performance, but the gains are minimal.

When im done in my engine bay i might reconsider a grounding kit but right now im not concerned about it.

I have a ton of stuff to install and the cleaner it is in there the better for my own comfort.

Once i am done , ill do some actual testing measuring resistance levels between key points and the negative terminal of the battery. At the end of the day - meter readings have the final decision

one good ground from the battery to the block, and another from the battery to the body will provide all the grounding you need.

All those extras aren't helping, but aren't hurting either.

What he said. If a car is 20 years old and nothing has ever been apart then you might run into some bad grounding (especially if the car lead a humid life). All you really need to do is loosen and re-tighten all of the bolts holding on all of the sensative components along with the grounding straps and all is well again. You just need to knock off any possible corrosion.
