  • Difference between the OEM and N1 oil pump?

oem have 12 gears and is 81mm and n1 have 1 less gear and is 77mm. Ok I understand this but in the real world what this difference make lol?

OEM is like 30$ cheaper so it's not really a question of money, I just want to make the right choice.

Also I think N1 oilpump has higher pressure.

If using N1 oilpump, buy the stronger Reimax gears (better metallurgy).

Or buy a Tomei oilpump, in which the gears (better metallurgy than Reimax gears) are stronger again.

Tomei pump is like $1200 more than an N1 though. Far shot of a comparison. I'd say go N1 and forget the OEM, maybe get some stronger gears if you find a good deal.

Its actually quite simple, if you have a choice between n1 and oem, then get the n1. More volume and pressure over oem, however I could be wrong about the volume. Also keep your rev limit to factory, don't be bouncing off the limiter all the time.

N1 only has higher pressure not higher volume. If it would have higher volume then oem it wouldn't be a simple bolt on, as you would need to install a restrictor.

          OEM and N1 flow roughly 42-47 L/min.

how does the n1 achieve the higher pressure, are the orifices smaller? Do the gears turn faster?

Isnt the relief spring different in the n1 pump?

In both the cases of the N1 oil pump and the N1 water pump, they are merely designed for different RPM ranges. Nissan Japan has told me that if the vehicle is only being used on the street then the regular pumps are better, but if the car is being tracked where it will see higher rpms below the factory red line for longer duration, the N1s will be better.

Neither is stronger than each other. The N1 oil pump is not higher flow, and it is not as strong as the Nismo/HKS/Tomei/Jun/Reimax pumps. Those pumps are stronger and made for higher rpms, including above the factory red line.

There is a thread where I posted the flow rates of all the pumps, take a look for it.

Dont buy into the whole same volume, higher pressure bs. Oil is a liquid and therefor if the pressure increases so does the volume. N1 pumps work good if you dont abuse them and get a genuine n1 pump. Lots of the n1 failures are fakes. I ran an n1 pump for years in my car at 350whp, 475whp and 587whp. All the same pump.

Also, check out nitto. They are pretty serious oil pump. I would go either tomei or nitto if I was using a factory style oil pump.

This has been discussed a ton. some people like them, some people dont.

Thought I would put some input in here:

The stock and N1 pumps are gerotor pumps. An internal gear spins an outer gear while being stationary in an off center position. The way gerotor pumps work are by traping fluid between the two gears thus pressurizing it and sending it out to do whatever it is to do. Gerotor pumps ALWAYS have one less tooth on the internal gear. Thats what gives it is pumping properties. Now, the stock pump has 12 teeth and the N1 has 11. The flow capasity is a factor of: RPM and the displacement of the missing tooth.

If some one has a N1 pump around they could easly measure the teeth and figure out the exact flow rate of the pump. Does anyone have one around? It would be great to have some real world figures on this.
