  • Power fc initial start up

    Hi guys,

I just rebuilt my engine and put power fc for the first time. It idled liked it had big ass cam in it, so I turned the engine off and reseted the power fc. When I started for the second time, it idled crap and idle was going up and down, with cam at 28 degree slowly dropping to 22, injector at 50%, knock level went up and down little bit, so I turned the engine off again and put the stock ECU back in.

I know that I have to let it idle for 30min for it to learn my engine?, but is this normal? I mean the engine was running crappy and I was afraid of ruining my newly built engine lol.

Has anyone have experience with this? let me know thanks!

from what i understand it takes 10 minutes for the idle to settle down , then you turn on your heater and it take another 10 minutes to settle again , then you turn on the rear defroster and same again for 10 minutes then it's done.

You wont damage an engine at idle even if it is running rich/lean while it sorts itself out .

I'm going to be installing the same unit soon

You have a problem with other aspects of the tuning, the learning capability of the powerfc is very limited.

Is the power fc new or used?

I am wondering this as well... If you turn it on and it's running rich, which mine is then what do you do? I have 725 injectors and a fat tomei fuel pump so I know it's getting a **** ton of fuel. How do I change this? I wouldn't mind getting this thing to where I could just let it run at idle. Anyways any input would be awesome.

Don't mean to jack the thread I just think we are both looking for the same answer.

you just put it in and let it idle for 10 heater for 10 and i think ac for 10 if you dont do this first when it gets tuned and you turn the heat on your idle will be very erratic.

When everything is set up right my old Power FC never had any trouble idling.

I had a bad turbo one time and the idle went up and down so badly I couldn't stand it. Check to see if your MAF output is oscillating between the two. If it is, check to see that your balance tube is in place. (This is a line connecting the two intake tracts) If this is in place and your MAFs are taking turns breathing, check your turbos.

If it runs fine with the stock ECU, disregard the above - - and break the engine in on the stock unit. Bad tunes are responsible for many bad engines.
