Yea, see both options aren't the greatest compared to just re-doing the turbos with ceramic. maybe i'll look into just re-building the turbos with new stock parts. sounds like a more efficient idea.

    Thanks man.

Another option is fit second hand R33 N1 turbo's, fit boost controller and turn boost level down to stock boost level (around 10-11psi).

Having them rebuilt with with ceramic internals seems like a waste of money to me. Pulling the turbo's, although not bad if you have done things like that before, is really not that much fun. Its a job that is best done once...hence upgrading.

I doubt there is even a price difference whether you go with a steel kit vs ceramic kit. The price of the steel kit is like $300...its the labour and balancing that cost lots. You cant just buy the kits and slap them in there. The end result is an oldschool, boost limited turbo. Like I said I strongly recommend finding a used set of either R34 N1 ballbearing turbo's or even better a set of garrett -7 or -9's (the -9's being equivalent to the hks gtss kit). It will cost alittle more but in the end you wont likely have to upgrade again so its money saved. If you keep the boost around 14psi you wont need to change anything else. Just remove the boost restrictor and you are done. You would see better results with a tune but its not required.

At any rate its your call, a highly recommended turbo shop here in ontario is called "cherry turbo". Give them a call and ask about rebuilding, im not affiliated with them in any way...the guy was very helpful but in the end I decided to buy a better pair of turbo's

See, i still have an N1 oil pump, so somewhere along the line i have to install that right. I figured i might as well do the timing belt, paint all the covers and do a couple little things here and there replacing old wires and such. I just don't want to worry about ripping the car and having a turbo blow. I hear tell it can cause a chunk of damage when that happens.
I guess i'll have to research a little further into this idea. I know i'll have to pull the engine eventually.

Thanks for all the suggestions fellas. greatly appreciated.

They had 3x R34 N1 ballbearing turbo failures at Nurburgring 24 hour race with N1 R34GTR prototype that was run by Nissan Motorsport Europe (UK). The older R33 N1 non ballbearing turbo's seem to be more reliable. Nissan switched to non ballbearing turbo's on stock R35GTR and lasted a 24 hour race without turbo failure and haven't failed at Nurburgring that I know of.
