I have the same issue. It almost sounds like a wastegate is being forced open, I can hear the exhaust note get louder each time it does it. Usually coming on the boost slowly in 5th does it for me. Maybe the wastegate actuator spring getting weak and the added exhaust pressure is overcoming it??

that sounds like its something possible. but have u guys ever lost boost? like i usually hit .9 but sometimes it hits it and then drops to stock (.7) and to get 9 back i gotta shut the car off. im thinking bad idea to take restrictor out haha.Originally posted by canadiancarguy View PostI have the same issue. Ive had it hit .9 and then trails off back down to .7.....sounds like wastegate is the consensus lol taking out the restrictor isnt the worst idea, ppl will all have their own opinions on removing it but all in all be happy! you didnt blow a turbo! They are few inovators, but many followers....

It sounds like your car was knocking so the ECU reset to safe boost.

It is definately not knocking on my car, if you are getting popping and knocking feel, check your plugs and coils first before you go off the deep end thinking your car is blowing up. These things tend to run rich even with the restrictor removed and they can foul plugs rather quickly. I can almost guarantee the wasetgates or actuators are worn out on these 20 year old cars. If you don't know what knocking is you should do some research you don't have to hear or feel knock for it to be there. Get yourself a wideband o2 sensor or an EGT sensor for piece of mind or spend $100 bucks and get the car dyno tuned, trust me it can be money well spent.

im gonna throw my powerfc back in and see what the sensor is reading.....
